Garden centres in Bristol: which centres are reopening and when?

Find out when your local garden centre is reopening with this handy guide. 

 

Following the government’s announcement on Sunday (10 May), some of Bristol’s garden centres will reopen this week.

 

It’s good news if you’ve been itching to tidy up your garden during lockdown, but you haven’t had the right supplies.

 

Any centres that reopen, however, will have to comply with strict social distancing measures to keep shoppers and staff safe.

 

Not sure when your local garden centre is reopening? Here’s a list of Bristol garden centres and when they are reopening.

 

Almondsbury Garden Centre 

 

One of the best-stocked garden centres in the South West, you can find Almondsbury Garden Centre near Cribbs Causeway.

 

Almondsbury Garden Centre is reopening on Saturday 16 May, between 10:00 and 16:00. The centre will then be open daily from 10:00 to 16:00.

 

To prepare for Saturday’s reopening, Almondsbury has suspended all internet purchases. For more information, visit the website.

 

Did you know? Almondsbury Garden Centre was founded in the 1930s.

Fonthill & Lakeside Garden Centre

 

A family-run garden centre, you'll find the Fonthill & Lakeside Garden Centre in Bitton, on the Bath Road.

 

Fonthill & Lakeside is reopening on Monday 18 May at 09:00.

 

The Fonthill & Lakeside website provides some information about the social distancing measures shoppers will be asked to follow:

 

"We will be operating a one in one out policy. Although it may be difficult, we kindly ask customers not to browse, simply select your goods and make your way to the till and exit."

 

"Please visit us on your own or with one other family member. Only Assistant dogs will be welcome. We have changed the layout to enable customers to easily flow through the garden centre."

 

"Unfortunately, we will not be able to accept cash as a form of payment. We will only be taking card payment. We have increased the contactless limit to £45."

Riverside Garden Centre 

 

The Riverside Garden Centre will reopen on Thursday 14 May at 09:00.

 

From Thursday, the Riverside Garden Centre be open five days a week (from Thursday to Monday). 

 

Shoppers will be asked to observe social distancing measures; the centre's toilet facilities will be unavailable, and shoppers are asked to visit alone.

You can find the Riverside Garden Centre near Greville Smyth Park in Southville.

Henleaze Garden Shop

 

Founded in 1946, the Henleaze Garden Shop in a family-run garden retailer in North Bristol.

 

The Henleaze Garden Shop is remaining closed until further notice. However, the Shop is continuing its local delivery service.

 

To place an order, give the Henleaze Garden Shop a call on 0117 9620418 between 09:00 and 12:00.

Elmwood Nurseries & Garden Centre

 

Elmwood Nursery & Garden Centre is open now. The centre reopened on Wednesday 13 May.

 

Like other centres, Elmwood is observing strict social distancing measures.

 

It said: "We love seeing you all and chatting to you, but to ensure we can give everyone beautiful gardens and adhere to social distancing we'd ask that people are in and out with their goods."

 

"We know it's a great place to take the family to get out of the house, but if you are able, please come by yourself to help us keep everyone safe."

 

Find Elmwood Nurseries & Garden Centre in Henfield, BS36.

Brackenwood Plant & Garden Centre 

 

Brackenwood Plant & Garden Centre, located in Leigh Court Estate in BS8, has not yet announced when they'll reopen.

 

A message on their website says:

 

"While the U.K. government has announced that garden centres in England can reopen from Wednesday 13 May we have a number of measures to put in place to keep both our staff and customers safe before we are able to open."

 

"We will update this notice with further information regarding our reopening date, timings and conditions regarding social distancing measures as soon as we can."

Whitehall Garden Centre (Whitchurch)

 

Founded in the 1970s, the Whitehall Garden Centres form part of a 4th generation family business.

 

Their Bristol store, located on Norton Lane in BS14, has not yet confirmed a reopening date, but keep an eye on their Facebook page for further updates.

 

The Whitehall Garden Centre in Whitchurch is still operating its Click & Collect service.

Cadbury Garden Centre

 

The Cadbury Garden Centre, located in BS49, is open now. They reopened on Wednesday 13 May.

 

As with other centres, the Cadbury Garden Centre is operating with social distancing measures.

 

According to their social media pages, staff have been provided with appropriate PPE and sanitizing stations have been introduced in the centre's entrance.

Iron Acton Garden Centre 

 

The Iron Acton Garden Centre is open now.

 

The BS37-based garden centre reopened on Wednesday 13 May. They'll be open daily from 10:00 until 16:00.

 

The centre has posted extended information about social distancing measures and shopping guidelines on their website.

Cleeve Nursery 

 

Cleeve Nursery is now open, operating with social distancing measures in place. Cleeve Nursery will accept card payments only.

 

Family owned and independent, find Cleeve Nursery in BS49. Did you know? Cleeve Nursery grow over 75% of the plants they sell!

Kemps Plants

 

Kemps Plants is now open. The BS37-based garden centre reopened on Wednesday 13 May. Kemps is open daily from 08:00 until 18:00.

 

The centre's ordering service is still in operation too. To place an order for collection, give Kemps a call on 0117 957 0061 between 08:00 and 18:00 daily.

Chief Trading Post 

 

The Chief Trading Post is open this weekend (Saturday 16 May). Find the Chief Trading Post in Oldland Common, BS30.
