Bristol to hit the big screen in new Ronan Keating film
Posted on: 16 Mar 2017Another Mother’s Son, which filmed on Bristol’s Princes Quay, is set for release in cinemas across the UK on Friday 24th March to aptly coincide with Mother’s Day weekend.
A new, star-studded World War II drama, Another Mother’s Son, hits cinemas across the UK next weekend, bringing with it the Bristol backdrop at which a portion of the movie was filmed. The flick, which stars Ronan Keating, Jenny Seagrove, John Hannah and Sherlock’s Amanda Abbington, features Princes Wharf transformed to look like a wartime St Helier’s Harbour.
Back in December 2015, a film-crew caused quite a stir as they set up a base in the Lloyds Amphitheatre, ready to shoot a sequence by the Balmoral in which Jersey deportees board a steam ship (see on-set picture, below). Next Friday will finally bring a chance to see the results, when the resultant film reaches more than 100 cinemas nationwide.
Many other locations in the South West were used to illustrate the little-known story of Nazi-occupied Jersey: among other instances, Wells Town Hall was draped with a swastika while Nazi soldiers are seen to march through Bath’s Parade Gardens and past the Guildhall.
Laura Pye, Head of Culture for Bristol City Council said: "Bristol Harbour is one of Britain's most beautiful and historic ports and it's fantastic to see it serve as a backdrop in one of the largest scenes in Another Mother's Son."
"It further cements Bristol's strong reputation for film and TV production and I look forward to seeing the iconic Bristol landmark on the silver screen."
Another Mother’s Son will be in cinemas nationwide on Friday 24th March.
