Bristol Film Festival presents An Audience with Christopher Eccleston

Eccleston, known for roles in Doctor Who and Shallow Grave, will be arriving at The Redgrave Theatre in March.

 

The yearly festival, that screens classic films at some of the city’s most unique locations, is bringing acclaimed actor Christopher Eccleston to Bristol.

 

Bristol Film Festival runs from 18 February to 6 May 2022, with ‘An Audience with Christopher Eccleston’ taking place on 1 March.

Christopher Ecclestone was born in Salford, Greater Manchester, becoming inspired into acting by hard-hitting 80s dramas. His breakthrough came in the form UK police drama, ‘Cracker’, starring Robbie Coltrane.

 

Having made a name for himself in the long-running show, Eccleston boosted his popularity in BBC serial ‘Friends in the North’ and noteworthy films such as Danny Boyle debut ‘Shallow Grave’, 'Jude' (based on Thomas Hardy’s Jude the Obscure) and ‘Let Him Have It’.

 

Renowned as one of British television’s most cherished actors secured, Eccleston landed a lead role in the revival series of cult classic ‘Doctor Who’ – written by Russell T Davies. 

 

Only staying on the show for one series, the character of the 9th Doctor is much loved and Eccleston remains a key part of Doctor Who’s ongoing success.

 

Eccleston actually made his professional stage debut at Bristol Old Vic, a supporting role in A Streetcar Named Desire in 1988, meaning that March will see the 58-year-old return to the place where it all began.

 

At the actor’s appearance at the Redgrave Theatre, attendees will watch him in conversation with renowned film critic Anna Smith, discussing his work and the influences that have got him to where he is today.

 

The conversation will be followed by a screening of ‘Saturday Night and Sunday Morning’ (a film close to Eccleston’s heart) followed by an audience Q&A.

 

Based on the book by Alan Sillitoe, the film stars Albert Finney (pictured below) as rebellious factory worker Arthur Seaton – one of the original ‘angry young men’ – and his life in post-war Nottingham.
