Posted on: 13 Mar 2019Bristol Film Festival returns to the city with another roster of cracking films in unusual venues - with an upcoming event being a screening of the 1925 classic horror flick, Phantom of the Opera, at Bristol Cathedral on Saturday 16th March 2019.
The Lon Chaney silent, black and white masterpiece (based on the Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel) will be projected and accompanied by an improvised score on organ by popular, award-winning local organist David Bednall.
Phantom of the Opera recounts the ghoulish tale of the reclusive Phantom who hides underneath the Paris Opera House and his facial disfigurement behind a mask. Obsessed with actress Christine and the desire to make her a lead performer, things soon spiral out of control leading to a denouement of emotional anguish and terrible consequences.
Showing as part of the Cathedral Screening series, this is a celluloid Gothic classic brimming with iconic imagery and make-up effects, brought to life in the atmospheric environs of an incredible venue to the suitably Phantom-esque strains of an impromptu organ recital.
