Bristol Cable celebrate ten years with a birthday bash

Posted on: 26 Jun 2024

The Bristol Cable, one of the most high-profile independent journalistic outlets in the UK, are celebrating their tenth anniversary – with a birthday party at Trinity Centre on July 26.

The Bristol Cable is one of Bristol’s (and the UK’s) hardest-working and highest-profile independent journalistic outlets. Founded in 2014 by a group of volunteers, the Cable is now an investigative powerhouse 100% owned by thousands of local people.

With ten years under their belt, the Cable team are celebrating the occasion at Trinity Centre next month, Friday 26 July. The “10 Years of the Bristol Cable” event is set to feature a number of events throughout the day – from a live recording of an episode of their podcast (including a mystery special guest) and family-friendly activities for kids in the daytime, to the special clubnight run by local DJs Booty Bass. The event will also feature food from socially conscious food charity The Mazi Project.

The party is also serving as a membership drive for the Cable – as mentioned, the Bristol Cable are entirely funded by community members and grants. It’s a grand goal, and one they’ve managed to maintain for ten years now – but costs are always rising, and the Cable want to work toward the sustainability of having more of their funding come from members than grants.

To that end, entry to the party is completely free to Bristol Cable members. With memberships as low as £5 a month, it’s a great deal – and you’re helping protect local journalism, as well as fund the fair pay of the people who work hard to do it.

The Cable are a gem of a resource, who have had unmeasurable positive impact on society, from their groundbreaking investigations into modern day slavery, to submitting crucial evidence to Bristol’s Living Rent Comission. Help them keep the lights on for another ten years – and have a good time doing it.

The party takes place on Friday 26 July. For more information on the Cable, or to join as a member, head to their website. For tickets to the birthday party, go to Headfirst.
