BID's 'Tap for Bristol' scheme donates another £20,000 to housing charities

The Bristol City Centre and Redcliffe & Temple BIDs have distributed £20,000 from their TAP for for Bristol initiative to three charities, all dedicated to tackling homelessness in the city.

 

Founded in 2019 by Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with local charity Caring for Bristol, TAP for Bristol is an initiative that raises funds for charities aiding individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness. It works via 25 contactless “TAP points” located on business premises across the BID areas, which passerby can use to quickly and safely doante money to the charity.

 

The latest round of donations has now been distributed: totalling £20,000, the funds are benefitting three charities: Emmaus Bristol, Survivors Leading Essential Education & Change (SLEEC), and Caring In Bristol, the initiative’s charity partner.

 

 

Emmaus Bristol, which aids individuals in securing employment and independent living after homelessness, received £5,000. This funding helps companions transition to independent living by covering their first month’s deposit, rent, and bills, providing them with the confidence and means to move forward.

 

SLEEC, a survivor-run organisation focused on systemic change and survivor support, also received £5,000. Run by volunteers from the female-led charity Bristol Women’s Voice, SLEEC will use the funds to assist survivors at risk of homelessness as they transition from unsafe situations to emergency accommodation.

 

 

Caring In Bristol, the initiative's charity partner, received a substantial £10,000 for their “Z-House” project, an emergency youth shelter offering short-term accommodation for 18-25-year-olds experiencing homelessness. The shelter provides a safe space while these young individuals secure longer-term housing options.
