A response from Moseley Rugby Club regarding their Bristol Rugby fixtures
Posted on: 23 Sep 2014At 365Bristol we like to promote what is great about Bristol and endeavour to submit some friendly banter into upcoming sporting fixtures in the City, one of which has provoked a response from Moseley Rugby Club.
Our event listing for the 15 February 2015 Bristol Rugby v Moseley fixture at Ashton Gate can be accessed by clicking here and in response Moseley have kindly informed us of some interesting facts about their club notably that for the game on Saturday 4th October 2014 all Bristol fans will be given a warm welcome to their club that is actually in, as opposed to near, Birmingham.
Things we should have known about Moseley but failed to do our homework!
Moseley may have been ‘near Birmingham’ 100 odd years ago, but is now a suburb just a couple of miles from the city centre with excellent communications by road, train, bus …..and air!
Whilst you’re correct about our move from our ‘home’ after 125 years, this was some 10 years ago. We are now based at Billesley Common and are due to open our brand new £3.5m stand in December. In the meantime we have built an envious reputation for an excellent match day experience including at least 4 real ales on match day as well as ‘famous’ hot pork baps!
A quick search (of the Bristol website or ours) would reveal Bristol and Moseley have played each other 10 times over the last 5 years. The last Moseley v Bristol fixture (12/4/14) saw a 24-33 win for Bristol. However their previous 3 visits to Moseley saw them lose twice and draw once. Last season (28/12/13) we lost 29-8 at Bristol but the season before (Fri 28/09/2012) saw a 21-22 victory for Moseley. 15/03/2013 Moseley 23-12 Bristol; 05/11/2011 Moseley 33-27 Bristol.
Our head coach is one of the most famous players to have come out of Bristol in many years…..Kevin Maggs who won 76 Irish caps. Our forwards coach is also a former Bristol player and was capped for Scotland.
If you enter ‘Moseley’ in the ‘search box’ on www.bristolrugby.co.uk it produces over 100 articles and www.moseleyrugby.co.uk has an extensive history section which will show that we’ve produced a total of 96 internationals to date (4 of whom were England captains)
