A first look inside the tree house at Crane 29

Posted on: 31 May 2017

There was excitement in the 365Bristol office today as we heard that we were to allowed to peep inside Canopy and Stars’ ‘Crane 29’, the temporary tree house structure erected by the company who specialise in creating amazing spaces. Read on for a look inside...

Part of the Sawday’s family, Canopy and Stars have an incredible selection of glamping locations. Their latest stunning venue is ‘Crane 29’ by the MShed on Spike Island, around which they have carefully constructed a tree house.

Due to the fact the cranes are listed, the structure is cantilevered and clamped to the cranes, and at the end of its 100 night stay, will be whisked away leaving no trace. This is part and parcel of the ethos behind the project: it has been designed to be low impact and all profits are being donated to Friends of the Earth. The tree house is the first Canopy and Stars location that’s in an urban area, and has been designed to be a fully sensory experience.

Prices to stay in the tree house start at £185. There are still a few dates available in the first release of nights, and there’s a ballot to sign up for the second release of nights.

As you walk in, the first thing that strikes you is how amazing it smells! There’s lots of raw wood in the decor and the scents of lavender and sage real create the feeling that you’re in a woodland hideaway.

You’ll also notice how quiet it is; we visited in the middle of the day during half term, so even though there was lots of hustle and bustle outside, inside the tree house remained an enclave of quiet and calm.

Ahead of you, you will see the bedroom, and off to your left is the little kitchen area and beyond that the bathroom. There is also a lounge are with a sofa and hammock, and a table and chairs.

Every inch of the tree house has been carefully planned, and despite its size, the tree house feels open and spacious. It has everything you could need for your overnight stay, from a fridge and kettle to a shower and even books and organic toiletries.

It feels really relaxing and calming, and every single window has a wonderful view.

To win a chance to stay in the tree house yourself, enter the ballot here. For more information about Canopy and Stars and their work, visit their website.
