A Celebration of African Culture at Spike Island

The art gallery Spike Island is hosting an event in celebration of African culture on the 23rd March to coincide with the launch of UWE’s Africa Week of this year.
The multimedia project aims to cohesively connect numerous aspects of African life, featuring a Mavazi ya kanga fashion show curated by Christelle Pellecuer, music from DJ Style of Ujima Radio, poetry read by Lawrence Hoo (pictured) and UWE students, as well as Breathing Fire theatre and African-inspired food.
The event will take place within the gallery’s exhibition space, which currently plays host to the hugely-popular Lubaina Himid Navigation Charts exhibit.
