Thornbury Castle - luxury hotel castle on the outskirts of Bristol

The wonderful and commanding Thornbury Castle is situated in Gloucestershire on the border of the Cotswold hills. The historic and extensive walled gardens house a magnificent example of Tudor architecture where Henry VIII once entertained Anne Boleyn and which retains many of its original features and charms whilst the staff are trained by a former royal butler.

Bedchambers at the castle have a number of regal features with four-poster or coronet beds in many plus hanging tapestries, ornately carved ceilings and magnificent views of the grounds and River Severn. Other features include the Duke’s Bedchamber, a two-bedroom Victorian Gatehouse located in the outer wall, arrow-slit windows in the The Tudor Bedchamber and a 10 foot wide four poster bed in the Tower Suite.

There are four dining rooms with each featuring fireplaces, paintings and leaded windows. These serve an international menu of traditional dinners and modern favourites prepared at an award winning kitchen. Popular servings include splendid afternoon teas and the castles own famous butterscotch pudding. Thornbury Castle is regularly awarded the Wine Spectator ‘Award of Excellence’ for it’s wine list that includes a selection of New World and vintage blends. The castle also has a 500 year old vineyard in the grounds where the Muller Thurgau grape is grown and harvested to produce a splendid white wine.

Thornbury Castle works closely with the nearby Vicarage Farm to provide a number of relaxation therapies and beauty procedures which can be booked to take place in the guests own room.

The castle is prestigious and private venue to host corporate meetings and events with 100 guests. These can take place in the impressive Tudor Hall which is hexagonal in shape and has arrow-slit windows, a superb open fireplace and can accommodate up to 30 guests. The Baron’s Sitting Room is a smaller wood paneled dining room with views of the castle vineyard and courtyard from deep-set windows and is adjacent to The Chancellor Lounge which can be used for drinks and greetings.

Activities available to guests within the grounds include archery, croquet and falconry and the castle is well placed for visits to the nearby Cotswold Hills, Berkeley Castle, the West Country, Welsh borders or numerous other activities including fishing and quad biking.
