IDLES announce new album, Ultra Mono, due for release in September

Posted on: 17 Jun 2020

The band accompanied news of the album with the release of new single 'GROUNDS'.

All-conquering Bristol outfit IDLES have confirmed a release date for Ultra Mono, their eagerly-awaited third album.

Due out on 25 September, the twelve-track record follows the critically acclaimed Joy as an Act of Resistance, released back in 2018.

Recorded in Paris, Ultra Mono sees the band team up with acclaimed producer Kenny Beats, and features French singer-songwriter and Savages frontwoman Jehnny Beth as well as vocals from Warren Ellis of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

After a cryptic video on their Facebook page (watch below) teased the album news on Sunday, IDLES confirmed the release date yesterday (Wednesday 16 June) and shared new single 'GROUNDS'.

Accompanied by a video that sees frontman Joe Talbot racing through the empty streets of Bristol in the early morning hours, 'GROUNDS' represents yet another uncompromising call to arms from the Bristol-bred five-piece.

The track is the second to be shared from the upcoming album, following the surprise release of new single 'Mr Motivator' last month.

Speaking on the release of the new single, Talbot said: “We wanted to write a song that embodied self-belief, and gave us self-belief – a counter-punch to all the doubt we build up from all the noise we so easily let in.

"We wanted to make the sound of our own hearts’ marching band, armed with a jackhammer and a smile. We wanted to make the sound of our engine starting. So we did. Thank you.”
