Bristol Blue Glass release commemorative Penny to celebrate 50 years of the Concorde airliner

Posted on: 16 Feb 2019

Grab yourself a bit of history with Bristol Blue Glass: to commemorate 50 years since the iconic Concorde airliner's first ever flight, the team have curated a collectable Blue Glass Penny. What an incredible way to honour the historical event!

The Concorde was the world's first supersonic airliner, which completed a "perfect" 27-minute maiden flight from Toulouse in March 1969. Just one month later, the turbojet-powered aircraft made its first British flight from Filton airfield on 9 April 1969 - that's history developed in our very own city!

Now retired, the Concorde served as supersonic transport for almost thirty years. Its primary users included some of air transport’s forerunners including British Airways and Air France! Did you know? You can see the last Concorde model to be built - the Alpha Foxtrot - displayed at Aerospace Bristol.

To commemorate this piece of Aerospace-engineering history, while nodding to the irresistibly innovative power of the city, Bristol Blue Glass have produced an intricate Collectable Penny. You can order yours online, or purchase the Penny at one of their two shops!

Founded in 1988 by James Adlington, Bristol Blue Glass has reestablished the cities’ long-lost glass-making tradition. A proud achievement, the team has carefully mastered the skills required to blow glass by hand, curating a range of sought-after baubles, bespoke homeware items and more! You can visit the Bristol Blue Glass studio to what their craft free of charge.
