Massive Attack MezzanineXXI Tour on 1st and 2nd March 2019

Posted on: 22 Jan 2019

Bristol's very own trip hop heroes Massive Attack will return to their hometown as part of their MezzanineXXI tour at Bristol's Steel Yard on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd March 2019.

The city's popular band will front a totally new audio and visual show designed by frontman Robert Del Naja and present a fresh, exhilarating re-imagining of the band's classic album, Mezzanine, a whole 21 years after it was originally released.

Massive Attack in Bristol

Interpolating much of the original album's audio samples and influences into this highly-anticipated live reboot, it was Massive Attack's third album and also their most commercially successful, topping the charts in four countries and including the classic track Teardrop.

Formed in 1988 with Robert '3D' Del Naja, Grant 'Daddy G' Marshall and Andy 'Mushroom' Vowles, their debut album, Blue Lines, was a sensation when it was released in 1991, with the single Unfinished Sympathy hitting the charts and being voted the 63rd greatest song of all time by NME. The band, naturally, went globally stratospheric, amassing a hardcore of worldwide fans and critical and commercial acclaim.

Both Blue Lines and Mezzannne made Rolling Stones' 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list, so this 21st century revamped live version of the latter, pumped up with exciting, state-of-the-art audio and visuals, will be a thrilling, welcome re-look at one of the greatest albums ever released by Bristol's finest musical icons.

As we type this, it brings a tear to our eye to say that both gigs have sold out (it's the quick and the dead when it comes to these fellas).  However, as often happens, people can't make it and drop out so it's worth keeping an eye on the official Massive Attack return ticket platform to snap up any last-minute cancellations here.

Steel Yard Bristol is located at Filton Airfield, Bristol, BS34 7QS
