Bristol Club Highlights - December 2018

It'd be foolish of us not to shine a light on the best of Bristol's bustling nightlife scene, and so with the Club Highlights series we'll be providing you with a monthly list of the best club nights in the city, taking into account some of the best-known acts and venues as well as some you might never have heard of. Bristol clubs are set to welcome some of the hottest underground talent on the scene through their doors as we see out the remainder of 2018, including DJ Nobu for the third and final part of Timedance's Final Chapter series, electro maestro DMX Krew for a hotly-anticipated live set at The Island, a Calibre DJ set at Thekla and more. Nebula 2nd Birthday w/DMX Krew [live] @ The Island, Saturday 1st December

Veteran producer Ed DMX has produced 18 albums and more than 20 EPs from the mid-90s to now. A master of all things electro, his releases on major labels such as Hypercolour, Rephlex Records and Super Rhythm Trax have won him legions of fans around the world but it's his live expertise that have seen him become one of the most in-demand names on the scene in recent years. Bristol label Nebula have managed to lure him to Bristol for their second birthday celebrations and any opportunity to make it should be jumped at - tickets are sold out so keep your eyes glued to the event's Facebook listing for any going spare.

 

Eclair Fifi @ Crofters Rights, Wednesday 5th December

Party starters Two Faced are ending the year in style by inviting renowned Scottish selector Eclair Fifi to the Crofters Rights for a "midweek festive jamboree". Fifa is quickly gaining worldwide acclaim for her soulful sets that cover anything from vintage Italo to heavier electro. Together with Two Faced residents she's sure to make this one a widweek knee's up to remember.

 

Livity Sound w/Pearson Sound @ The Love Inn, Thursday 6th December

Livity Sound's weekly Love Inn residency has quickly become one of Bristol's favourite midweek series and they've outdone themselves with this one. Having released a steady stream of singles and EPs since 2009 and a full debut album in 2015, Pearson Sound has become one of the most recognisable names in the current UK techno scene. His track 'XLB' became one of the soundtracks of 2016 and he's since recorded a full FABRICLIVE mic as part of the club's acclaimed series - don't miss him at The Love Inn this month.

 

Calibre @ Thekla, Friday 7th December

Drum n bass heavyweight Calibre is no stranger to Bristol having played the city on several occasions in the last few years, and he's back in the Westcountry for one more time in 2018 to play at Thekla on Friday 7th December for Intrigue's Christmas Special. The renowned DJ and producer will be joined by Paradox for an eagerly anticipated live set and vocalist Collette Warren who'll be performing a set of selected songs from her brand-new Hidden Lines EP.

 

In:Motion Crack Magazine @ Motion, Saturday 8th December

Crack Magazine's last In:Motion party was one of the defining events of the 2017 series and this one is set to become the same this year. Detroit originator Jeff Mills, all-encompassing selector Motor City Drum Ensemble and Discwoman co-founder Umfang are among the stars of a show that is perfectly poised to blow the roof off the Motion complex this month. Tickets are still available but are expected to sell out so get involved while you still can.

 

Mix Nights Showcase 012 @ The Love Inn, Wednesday 12th December

Mix Nights is back with their 12th group of pupils, ready to share their skills and top-notch selections with The Love Inn! The project, fronted by Bristol Women In Music, is an informal teaching series that invites women in Bristol to develop and hone their DJ skills is an encouraging and safe environment. With Bristol DJs Shanti Celeste and Em Williams both involved in the initiative, you can be sure that Mix Nights' eleventh showcase will be an upbeat, carefree journey through several genres and styles, with anyone and everyone welcome to get down and check out the debuts of their latest pupils. Timedance: The Final Chapter Part III @ The Island, Friday 14th December

After a three-year run of timeless parties in The Cells, the Timedance boys are calling time on their beloved events. Their parties since 2015 have brought some huge names to Bristol including Ben UFO and DJ Stingray, but alas, all good things must come to an end. In true style, the Bristol label has announced a three-part Final Chapter series, running in October, November and December, and certainly haven't skimped on the bookings. The third and final part of the series is set to welcome Japanese techno maestro DJ Nobu through the doors of The Island to play alongside Timedance signee Batu. Given the good times that the Bristol label has given us over the last three years, you can be absolutely certain that they'll be signing off in style with this one.

 

History Sessions @ Trinity Centre, Friday 21st December

Bristol Dum & Bass Events are all set to host their biggest-ever party at the tail end of 2018, welcoming Calyx & Teebee, Dillinja, Ed Rush and more to Trinity Centre for History Sessions on the last weekend before Christmas. Chances are you'll be finished with work by then and officially on your Christmas break, so why not head to Trinity for this one and have it off in the company of four of the biggest names in UK drum n bass?

 

In:Motion Skream Open to Close @ Motion, Saturday 29th December

Dubstep originator-turned certified genre-spanning genius Skream is all set to setlle into an all-night slot at Motion at the turn of the year, playing from start to finish of the a night on Saturday 29th December. Known to encompass garage, house, techno, disco and more into his sound both as a producer and a DJ, the 'Open To Close' concept is expected to present a perfect opportunity for Ollie Jones to showcase his talent on the decks. He'll be supported by Alex Virgo all night in The Tunnel, a rising star who's sure to have a few hidden gems in his arsenal.
