Bristol-based cancer charity Penny Brohn UK to host free support course

Posted on: 26 Oct 2018

Leading UK cancer charity Penny Brohn has announced that it will be hosting a free, one-off support course for people supporting a teenager or young person with cancer. The residential course will take place from 6pm on Friday 16th November-5pm on Sunday 18th - find out more about how to apply for a place below.

Penny Brohn's free support course will be held at their National Centre this November.

The Living Well course is set to take place at Penny Brohn's National Centre in Pil, and will provide support carers with an opportunity to meet others in a similar position and learn how to provide better support and take some of the strain off themselves in the process.

Esther Passingham, Client Coordinator for TYA Supporters at Penny Brohn UK said: “Supporters often overlook their own physical and mental health while they focus on their loved ones. Sharing experiences can really help to reduce the feeling of isolation.”

A supporter who recently attended a course added: “It’s hard to prioritise your own needs when you are so concerned about someone else. But I’m glad I went; I feel more able to deal with things now.”

The residential course is designed for those supporting a teenager or young person with cancer. Supporters may be a parent, sibling (over the age of 18), carer or partner. The course brings supporters together and offers an opportunity to understand the impact on themselves and explore ways of improving their own health.

Penny Brohn asks interested parties to be aware that places on the Living Well course are limited, and are allocated on a first come, first served. To book your place or for more information on the course, call the Penny Brohn team on 0303 3000 118, contact them via email or visit their website

Fundraising never stops for Penny Brohn UK, and they hold a wide range of events throughout the year in support of their essential work caring for the millions of people in the UK who are directly or indirectly affected by cancer.
