Portishead mum, Heidi Loughlin, is calling on locals to join her at this year’s Stomp in aid of cancer charity, Penny Brohn UK. Heidi and her friends and family have signed up to take part in Stomp, a six mile sponsored walk to support people living with cancer.

The family friendly event takes place on Saturday 13 October and is open to all ages and abilities. The walk starts at Anchor Square in Bristol and follows the towpath alongside the Avon Gorge towards Penny Brohn UK’s beautiful National Centre in Pill. The event will culminate at the National Centre where walkers will be greeted with a farmers’ market, refreshments and entertainment. The farmers market will also be open to the public for everyone to enjoy.

Heidi was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer in 2015 when she was three months pregnant and began blogging about her experience in her up front and honest blog, Storm in a Tit Cup.

Talking about the event, Heidi said: “I’m taking part in Stomp for a variety of reasons. Penny Brohn UK is just up the road from me and yet I’ve seen it benefit people from all over the UK who face cancer as part of their lives. I’ve met women in the breast cancer forums I’m part of, that have travelled from miles away because Penny Brohn UK has such a fantastic reputation for making those with cancer, feel like they still have control of their lives. Cancer is like falling off a cliff so any control you can regain is paramount. I’m taking part because it will be a great family event that I can do with lots of my friends and people who are local to me as I really love being part of my local community. And I’m also taking part because I’ve eaten way too much cake over the summer and a six mile stomp will do me the world of good.”

Penny Brohn UK’s community fundraiser, Ian Riddell, said: “Stomp is a fun day out for the whole family and everyone is welcome. We’re delighted to welcome Heidi and her family at this year’s Stomp and would love to see even more families join us and raise money to help us support more people living with cancer to live as well as possible for as long as possible.”

With over 37 years’ experience, Penny Brohn UK recognises that people with cancer need more than medicine. Its Bristol Whole Life Approach provides integrated whole person cancer support that works alongside medical treatment to achieve the best health and wellbeing. The approach explores areas such as diet, exercise, relationships and managing stress, through free residential and day courses, one-to-one therapies, groups and national helpline.

Penny Brohn UK supports anyone with cancer and their loved ones, before, during and after treatment.
