Posted on: 01 Aug 2018

Here at 365Bristol, we're committed to making you aware of the best Bristol has to offer in terms of live music, great food and drink, days out and more. With the Live Music Highlights series, we'll be providing you with a list of the top live events at the beginning of every month, taking into account some of the city's favourite acts and venues as well as some you might never have heard of. We're hitting you with one of the most diverse highlights lists of the year in August, featuring Antal, Leon Vynehall, Andrew Weatherall and more at Motion's Yard: Open Air Club, a very special orchestral rendition of Daft Punk's greatest hits at the O2 Academy, and an unmissable show from exciting newcomers Our Girl at Rough Trade.

Re:Imagine will bring their special Daft Punk Orchestral show to Bristol's O2 Academy on Tuesday 14th August.

Daft Punk: A Live Rendition by a 16-piece Orchestra @ O2 Academy Bristol, Tuesday 14th August

Undoubtedly one of the best-loved electronic acts of all time, Daft Punk have an array of hits to rival any other producer(s) in the world. From humble beginnings on the Parisian techno scene in the early 90s, they have become a worldwide phenomenon thanks to hits like 'One More Time', 'Get Lucky' and 'Around The World'.

This month, though, Re: Imagine are providing fans with the chance to experience the duo's greatest tracks like never before, by presenting a live rendition by a full 16-piece orchestra, live at Bristol's O2 Academy. Tickets are still available at just £20 plus booking fee - book yours now via the link above before it's too late!

DaM-FuNK live @ Thekla, Tuesday 14th August

If the electronic stylings of Daft Punk or full orchestras aren't your thing, then fear not: we've found you an alternative to liven up your dreary Tuesday night. DaM-FUNK, a pioneer of progressive funk sounds and one of the most prominent artists of the genre right now, will be taking a Bristol audience through his unrivalled repertoire at Thekla as part of his 2018 UK and European tour. As someone who's seen him play before, quite by accident without really knowing who he was beforehand, I highly recommend you check this one out.

Calibre & DRS - Alchemy @ Lakota, Saturday 18th August

Drum n Bass heavyweights Calibre & DRS will be playing a special extended set at Lakota this month.

Known up and down the country as two of the biggest names in drum n bass, Calibre & DRS are set to bring their new show, Alchemy, to Lakota this month on Saturday 18th August. Billed as a "musical excursion beyond genres", the pair will be pushing the limits of drum n bass during a special extended three-hour set on the night, featuring a selection of unreleased tracks and unique dubs. Chances to catch Calibre in Bristol don't come around all that often, and with tickets still on fourth release at just £12, this one's a no-brainer for any DnB fans in the area.

Our Girl live @ Rough Trade Records, Tuesday 21st August

Critically acclaimed London-based trio Our Girl are set to play a special live set at Bristol's Rough Trade Records this month, coinciding with the release of their debut album, Stranger Today, which is out on Friday 17th. The band have quickly won over a number of fans and critics since starting out with their debut EP in November 2016, and have been tipped as one of the best breakthrough acts of this year.

Supersonic: Stone Roses Special @ The Fleece, Friday 24th August

The Fleece are putting a very special Roses twist on their popular Supersonic Britpop night this month.

The Fleece's hugely popular Supersonic night is back in August with a twist: this month's Stone Roses special will feature the very best of one of the UK's best-ever bands, guaranteed to play their most memorable hits, including 'Waterfall', 'Fool's Gold', 'I Wanna Be Adored' and more! Of course, alongside all the Roses classics will be the usual offering of belters from arguably the greatest era in the history of British music, including tracks from the likes of Oasis, Blur, The Verve and Happy Mondays!

James Arthur live - Bristol Skyline Series @ Lloyd's Amphitheatre, Friday 24th August

As part of Bristol's ongoing Skyline Series, former X Factor contestant and successful solo artist James Arthur is the next to arrive for a huge live performance in Bristol. Now set to take place at Lloyd's Amphitheatre on the Harbourside after complications with the previous St. Philips' Gate venue, expect Arthur to take crowds through his collection of hugely popular singles including 'You Deserve Better', 'Naked', 'Say You Won't Let Go' and 'Safe Inside'.

Yard: Open Air Club @ Motion, Saturday 25th August

Motion's hotly anticipated Yard: Open Air Club is set to take place this month.

The return of Yard: Open Air club has been one of the most highly anticipated daytime events of a busy Summer at Motion, mainly because of the impressive lineup that will see the likes of Rodhad, Antal, Andrew Weatherall, Ame, Avalon Emerson, Leon Vynehall and many more descend upon three outdoor stages. The party will run from 1pm to 4am, so you'll have to be in it for the long haul, and the big names on the bill are backed up by the likes of upcoming local selector Ellie Stokes, London-based Moxie, Natural Sugars and more.
