Want to brush up on your knowledge of local history? Placeum – Bristol’s first digital audio map – might be able to help.

Placeum is Bristol’s new interactive map aiming to provide residents and visitors alike with a unique but accessible insight into the city’s rich history.

Loaded with mini sound bites, the platform enables users to navigate through Bristol’s past via different dropped pins, charged with the unique commentaries of Placeum founder Sam Green: a Bristol-based ex-journalist and lawyer.

From riots in Queens Square to Prince Albert’s visit to The SS Great Britain, Placeum offers engaging commentaries about key topics, people, and themes that have forged Bristol today, while Sam’s narrative voice provides extra intrigue.

Sam explains, “Bristol has a hugely rich and varied history, and it's a great place to have a wander. Using microcasts adds understanding and helps bring the sights to life, all of which can be enjoyed however people like.”

Placeum is accessible via any smartphone and requires internet or data for use. To use the website on your next walking tour head here. If you want to give Sam some feedback, head here.
