Tour of Broadmead Tuesday 31st July with cancer charity Penny Brohn

Following the success of the first two events in 2016 and 2017, the Tour of Broadmead static cycle challenge returns to Bristol Shopping Quarter for the third time from 28 July to 4 August when they will once again be raising money for eight different charities.

365Bristol and The Arcade will be supporting Penny Brohn on Tuesday 31st July from 11am until 4pm.

With over 37 years’ experience, Penny Brohn recognises that people with cancer need more than medicine. Their Bristol Whole Life Approach provides integrated whole person cancer support that works alongside medical treatment to achieve the best health and wellbeing. The approach explores areas such as diet, exercise, relationships and managing stress, through free residential and day courses, one-to-one therapies, groups and national helpline.

Organised by the Broadmead Business Improvement District (BID), the annual eight-day charity fundraiser is inspired by the Tour of Britain, which will be returning to Bristol on Tuesday 4 September. The volunteer cyclists will cover the full distance of that ‘Tour’, one stage each day, but they will be on static bikes so won’t ever leave Bristol Shopping Quarter.

The bikes are provided by PureGym Union Gate, who have been great supporters of the event from the get go, and their personal trainers will be providing some pedal power too. This year, The Galleries will be looking after the bikes each night as well as providing the event with an indoor location should it rain – if it’s dry, you’ll find the bikes and riders outside M&S.

This year’s charities include four making their Tour of Broadmead debut – YMCA Bristol, British Heart Foundation, Teenage Cancer Trust, and Above & Beyond. There are also three returning for the second time – PROPS, Penny Brohn UK, and St Peter’s Hospice. And one going for the hat trick – Southmead Hospital Charity. They are great causes and each one would welcome some extra volunteers to help them cover the distance!

The event raised more than £4000 in 2017, so that’s what they are aiming to beat this year!
