GZA to perform legendary Liquid Swords album in full at SWX this September

Posted on: 25 Jul 2018

A founding member of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, GZA will go down in history as one of the most important artists of the golden generation of hip-hop. Wu-Tang's repertoire is seemingly endless, with a selection of group records, individual projects and collaborations making up one of the biggest collections of music in hip-hop. One of those albums is GZA's Liquid Swords, often picked as one of the best works to come out of the Wu-Tang era. Don't miss the chance to catch him perform the album in its entirety at Bristol's SWX on Saturday 1st September 2018.

Liquid Swords remains one of the most popular albums of the Wu-Tang era.

Fellow Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon immortalised GZA on the 1993 album Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) album with a short line on 'Can It All Be So Simple'. "And the GZA, the G is just a genius" he says during a recording of an interview of the group. "He's the backbone of the whole shit".  One of the strongest lyricists in the group, GZA went on to release Liquid Swords to pretty much universal critical acclaim two years later, the first album released solely under his name.

It's clear right from the start of the record that this was a Wu-Tang project, with a trademark long, grainy-sounding sample at the start of the namesake first track, as well as cameos from Inspectah Deck, Method Man, Ghostface Killah and others throughout.

The show at Bristol's SWX in September is a complete one-off, and is, therefore, a must-see for any hip-hop fans in and around Bristol. Almost anyone with a half decent knowledge of the genre would agree that Liquid Swords is one of the best albums of the golden generation of New York artists, let alone from the Wu-Tang era, and that any chance to see it live from start to finish should be jumped at. Don't sleep on this one!

Tickets for GZA live at SWX Bristol on Saturday 1st September are on sale now and can be found here. For more information or to follow ticket updates, visit the SWX Bristol website or check out the event's Facebook listing.
