Staff and volunteers will be gathering together beneath a balloon at the Brentry site, which is currently undergoing extensive redevelopment to build a modern hospice for Bristol, to launch the exciting partnership. The charity has raised over an incredible 6.4 million towards the build so far, with only £126,237 left to raise for the new site.

A Bristol charity caring for adults with life-limiting illnesses, the hospice aims to improve the quality of their living and dying while extending care and support to their families and loved ones.

All of their care is provided free of charge, but it costs around £20,000 a day to provide that care. For most of this money they rely on Gifts in Wills, donations, fundraising and their chain of shops.

Sarah Allen-Gunn, Head of Fundraising for St Peter’s Hospice, said: “Bristol is an amazing city and we’re lucky to have lots of incredible events on our doorstep every year. But none is bigger than the Bristol Balloon Fiesta and so we’re beyond thrilled to be the official charity partner. We’ll need lots of volunteers at the event to help us make the most of this opportunity so we’re calling on local people to support us. And we’re hugely grateful to Bailey Balloons who have given us a balloon flight for two on the Sunday evening which we’re raffling off on our website to raise money for the Hospice. With both the Balloon Fiesta and St Peter’s Hospice turning 40 this year, it’s going to be a huge celebration!”

Those wanting to be part of the event by volunteering to support the Hospice, or wanting to enter the online raffle to win a balloon flight, should visit the charity’s website here.

Now in its 40th year, the Fiesta has become one of Europe's largest annual hot air balloon festivals, attracting over half a million locals and visitors alike. This year, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta will take place on the Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th August 2018 in partnership with Bristol Energy.

As ever, the Fiesta will open on Thursday at midday with hot air balloons tethering throughout the afternoon followed by the special shapes flight at 6pm, displaying an array of unique shaped balloons.

On Thursday and Saturday late night visitors to the festival can witness the famous Night Glows as the hot air balloons appear as giant light bulbs, a stunning sight of 30 balloons with burners roaring bright in time to the music as night falls.

For people planning on driving to the event, car parking must be booked in advance and runs on a tiered system, so the earlier it’s booked the cheaper the price and the closer the space is to the main showground. Premium, main and disabled car parking slots can still be bought here.
