Woodspring Wings Annual Model Air Show 2018

The annual and always-popular Woodspring Air Show will be taking place on Saturday 30th June and Sunday the 1st July at its airfield in Claverham Drove, North of Yatton near Bristol. 

 

The heavily anticipated airshow is a key date in many a flying enthusiast’s calendar. Woodspring Wings is one of the only model clubs in the country with their own land, and are well known for hosting the largest model aircraft show in the South West. The club was formed by 50 members in 1989. Now in is 26th year, it has gone from strength to strength, and now attracts around 5,000 visitors per show.

Alfresco Catering are excited to be hosting the foodie element of the day, and have released their plans for both show days' proceedings. Saturday and Sunday will both be host to a breakfast bar from 7.30 till 11, followed by a full mobile bar, ice cream cart, premium B coffee, a pizza hut, BBQ smoke house and hog roast from 11am to 5pm. Their Saturday Take Away Service from 5 till 9pm will give guests the choice between alfresco curries, pizza parlour takeaways and classic fish and chips. 

 

The show, as always, will welcome a wide selection of models from all over the country. Flying will commence at 10am and will continue until 5pm, giving visitors a whopping 7 hours of uninterrupted viewing. 

 

This year, guests will be treated to 3 passes by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster bomber on the Sunday (time yet to be announced). Large models including a Lancaster and possibly even a Vulcan bomber will be present, and the show will feature recent addition the “Battle of Woodspring” - a simulated air raid including bomb bursts and anti-aircraft fire.

This is sure to be a great day out, whether model aircraft enthusiast or not, and the club hope to enjoy the same excellent weather that they had last year. 

 

Show admission will be £10 for adults and free for accompanied children under 16 years. Well behaved dogs are very welcome, as long as they’re on a lead and not frightened by the loud bangs. 

 

The airfield is located at Claverham Drove, Clevedon, BS21 6TZ.
