Posted on: 01 May 2018

Here at 365Bristol, we're committed to making you aware of the best Bristol has to offer in terms of live music, great food and drink, days out and more. With the Live Music Highlights series, we'll be providing you with a list of the top live events at the beginning of every month, taking into account some of the city's favourite acts and venues as well as some you might never have heard of. This month, expect to see Hip-Hop hero Chali 2na with prolific producer and DJ Krafty Kuts, a special orchestral version of Dr Dre's legendary 2001, and upcoming UK vocalist Carmody on some of Bristol's best stages.

Aussie three-piece DMA's will perform at Bristol's O2 Academy for the first time on Monday 21st May.

Adam French with Harvey Causon @ The Louisiana, Wednesday 2nd May

A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, 23-year-old Adam French is regarded by some as one of the most interesting upcoming singer-songwriters on the scene right now. His show at The Louisiana is one date of a five-show tour that also sees him perform in London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Stoke. With support from Harvey Causon, the exciting young artist currently making waves with plays on BBC Radio 1 and a string of impressive live performances, the gig certainly represents the best way to spend a Wednesday night this week.

Je Suis Disco @ O2 Academy Bristol, Saturday 5th May

The latest addition to Bristol's bustling disco scene, Je Suis Disco have gone all out with their first-ever lineup. Featuring the likes of genre veteran Jocelyn Brown, Chicago native Nicky Siano's Bristol Debut, Sean McCabe and more, Je Suis Disco guarantee the grooviest disco night of the month at Bristol's O2. You're unlikely to see a better disco lineup all year in Bristol so follow the link above and book your place now.

Chali 2na & Krafty Kuts @ Thekla, Saturday 12th May

Founding member of Jurassic Five, Chali 2na, and prolific producer Krafty Kuts are set to play Thekla on Saturday 12th May

An original member of classic LA hip-hop outfit Jurassic Five, Chali 2na is set to arrive in Bristol this month as part of a UK tour with celebrated producer and DJ Krafty Kuts. Having collaborated previously as well as having work currently in the pipeline, expect an energetic mix of hip-hop, electro and more from the pair's UK shows. Tickets for this one are expected to sell out - grab yours now before it's too late.

Carmody @ Crofter's Rights, Wednesday 16th May

It seems that London is producing an endless stream of fantastic musicians at the moment, and East-London born vocalist Carmody has got everyone talking more than most. Having recently collaborated with the likes of Tom Misch and Alfa Mist, Carmody's unique pop-folk vocals are becoming increasingly recognisable as the days pass by. Chances like this to see her in a venue as intimate as Crofter's Rights are going to become harder and harder to come by as her reputation continues to grow, so don't miss out on this one.

An Orchestral Rendition of Dr Dre: 2001 @ Motion, Friday 18th May

Dr Dre's 2001 is one of the best-selling hip-hop albums of all time.

Nights like this don't come around often. Not only can you spend a night in the company of one of the best-selling hip-hop tracklists of all time, you get to hear it like never before: performed by a full orchestra. Brought to you by No Strings Attached, An Orchestral Rework of Dr Dre's 2001 will also feature a set of DJs, lyricists and singers as well as the full instrumentation of Dr Dre's incredibly intricate album. Bristol hip-hop heads should be all over this one with a limited number of flash sale tickets available at just £13.

DMA's @ O2 Academy Bristol, Monday 21st May

Aussie trio DMA's have gone from strength to strength since breaking through in the UK a few years ago. Their high-energy brand of garage-pop has seen them sell out shows across four continents and play some of the world's biggest festivals including Coachella in the US, Reading & Leeds and Glastonbury, where they played the coveted secret set. We caught them in Bristol back in 2015 at Start The Bus (now HY-Brasil) in the city centre, and will certainly be back to see them again.

Maya Law @ The Gallimaufry, Tuesday 22nd May

Maya Law has enjoyed a busy 2018, working on numerous releases and playing live shows.

Having worked with Bristol-based artists recently, Maya Law is back in the city this month for her first Bristol show since February 2017. Her sound fuses neo-soul with acoustic elements and hip-hop influences, and she has earned radio play on both Radio 1Xtra and Radio 6 Music. Law is joined on the night by The Off-Kilter Trio, made up of Harvey Causon, producer Gabriel Gifford and drummer Ben Toon, who have enjoyed success of their own in recent months with a string of shows and a recording session at the BBC's Maida Vale studios. Don't miss out on this one at The Gallimaufry on Tuesday 2nd May.

Bristol is also hosting a selection of festival events in May, with Rave on Avon, Dot to Dot and Love Saves The Day all set to take place towards the end of the month. Keep an eye out for a dedicated 365Bristol preview piece. Tickets for all of the above shows are available at the time of writing, but are subject to change.
