Everyman Music Film Festival 7th-16th May 2018

Posted on: 29 Apr 2018

Bristol’s Everyman Cinema are celebrating the crossover between music and film with their annual festival from Monday 7th to Wednesday 16th May. They currently have a host of new releases on show, and will be accompanying these with two special documentary screenings on the 8th and 9th of May.

Lost in Vagueness & Live Performance - Tuesday 8th May

Lost in Vagueness Bristol Everyman

This preview tells the story of the creation of ‘Lost in Vagueness’ - the legendary after hours party which ran from 2000 to 2007 at Glastonbury festival. Between burlesque shows, trapeze artists, casinos and an infamous wedding chapel, Lost in Vagueness came at just the right time to save Glastonbury from its declining ticket sales. The idea was created by Roy Gurvitz and the documentary made by filmmaker Sofia Olins who attended the party in the early 2000s.

The film will be shown at 8pm. Get tickets here.

Here to be Heard: The Story of The Slits - Wednesday 9th May

Here to be Heard Bristol Everyman Slits

For fans of punk, Here to be Heard: The Story of The Slits is one not to be missed. The film, directed by William E Badgley, documents the career of the world’s first all-girl punk band The Slits, who formed in 1976 and completely changed the musical scene for female artists. Their album Cut was one of the defining records of the post-punk era, and it earned the band support spots with the likes of The Clash and Buzzcocks.

The film was premiered at the BFI London Film Festival last October, and is now being screened at select cinemas across the UK.

This film will be screened at 6.30pm and will be followed by a Q&A with band members Tessa Pollitt, Viv Albertine and original drummer Palmolive. For tickets, click here.

Other films currently being shown at the Everyman Cinema include:

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - Charming period tale and romantic drama about a journalist who forms attachments with an eccentric community group in Guernsey.

Love, Simon - A 17 year old boy struggles with falling for an anonymous classmate online whilst hiding the fact that he is gay from his family and friends.

Isle of Dogs - Wes Anderson’s stop motion animation following a group of dogs trying to escape a garbage dump, Trash Island, after being exiled from the City.

Ready Player One - Steven Spielberg brings us a science fiction dystopia where humans live their lives through virtual reality.

A Quiet Place - Post-apocalyptic horror starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. A family must live in silence whilst hiding from creatures which hunt by sound.

Funny Cow - Maxine Peake plays a comedienne breaking through the glass ceiling whilst performing in working men’s clubs in Northern England.

The Greatest Showman - Musical extravaganza celebrating the birth of show business, telling the story of original circus master P. T. Barnum.
