Gloucestershire County Cricket Club are doing their part in the fight against dementia by hosting an awareness event on Friday the 20th April at The Brightside Ground in Bristol.

Gloucestershire Cricket Club Charity BRACE

Financial and legal experts will be in attendance to help provide free advice to anyone concerned about the costs of caring for a loved one with the disease. Dementia can be particularly difficult to deal with, often causing devastating effects for sufferers and their families. Physical and psychological consequences can include changes in personality, memory loss, language difficulties and loss of mobility.

With patients usually suffering from the disease for years or even decades, these problems are often accompanied with great financial loss which only adds to the distress felt by loved ones.

BRACE are a non profit organisation whose aim is to tackle dementia by raising funds for medical advances in the UK. By awarding any money they raise as grants to university-based researchers in South England and South Wales, they hope to help reach earlier diagnosis and provide better treatments for the various forms of the disease.

The event will include a welcome from the cricket club’s Chief Executive Will Brown before a talk from Professor Stephen Lisney (Chair of BRACE Trustees). These will be followed by legal advice regarding the importance of appointing a Lasting Power of Attorney from experts Anne Minihane and Clarke Willmott. Mark Stone from Whitechurch Financial Consultants will then discuss the practicalities of managing wealth in terms of long term care.

The event will start at 10:30am. At the end of the seminar, there will be an opportunity to meet and talk one to one with the experts if you have any questions.

Anyone who attends this seminar will be given free entry to the first day of the Gloucestershire v Glamorgan Specsavers County Championship match, courtesy of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.

If you wish to book onto this limited space event, please call the GCCC team on 0117 910 8000 to reserve a place.
