Play offs beckon for Bristol City and Bristol Rovers with 7 games to go

Posted on: 02 Apr 2018

With just 5 weeks and 7 games left of the season both Bristol City and Bristol Rovers have opportunities to make it to the playoffs. Let's take a look at their run in and must win games as we reach the conclusion of the 2017/18 season.

BRISTOL CITY

Bristol City Football Club

Currently 7th place on 62 points, same points as 5th place Derby and 6th place Middlesbrough. The automatic promotion places are almost guaranteed to Wolves (85 points) and Cardiff (79 points). Aston Villa are in 4th on 70 points and the chasing pack behind Bristol City includes Millwall, Sheffield United and Preston North End.

We are estimating a minimum of 14 points needed from the 21 available and that has to include picking up at least a point versus Millwall and 3 points at home to both Birmingham City and the last day fixture v Sheffield United. No doubt Lee Johnson would have taken this position at the start of the season, lets hope Bobby Reid keeps firing them in and we see Premiership Football in Bristol next season!

Remaining fixtures:

Monday 2nd April : HOME v Brentford (11th)

Saturday 7th April : AWAY v Millwall (8th)

Tuesday 10th April : HOME v Birmingham City (21st)

Saturday 14th April : AWAY v Middlesbrough (6th)

Saturday 21st April : HOME v Hull (18th)

Saturday 28th April : AWAY v Nottingham Forest (16th)

Sunday 6th May : HOME v Sheffield United (9th)

BRISTOL ROVERS

Bristol Rovers Football Club

Bristol Rovers have left themselves a pretty tough task to reach the play offs currently sitting in 10th place, 6 points adrift of Plymouth Argyle in 6th. The top two automatic promotion places will be sorted out between Wigan Athletic, Blackburn Rovers and Shrewsbury Town. Rotherham United are a shoe in for the play offs so there are 2 places left up for grabs and possibly 7 team vying for them. Chris Lines 85th minute penalty winner against Bury last week has kept the dream alive though.

With 7 games left nothing less than 15 points from 21, and that might not be enough, will do - including wins over Charlton and Southend and picking up points versus both Wigan and Rotherham. They could also do with a bit of luck with other results going their way and could do with halving the 6 point gap today with a win over Fleetwood, as Scunthorpe (5th) host Plymouth (6th) today.

Remaining fixtures

Monday 2nd April : AWAY v Fleetwood Town (15th)

Saturday 7th April : HOME v Charlton Athletic (8th)

Saturday 14th April : HOME v Blackburn Rovers (2nd)

Saturday 21st April : AWAY v Rotherham United (4th)

Tuesday 24th April : HOME v Wigan (1st)

Saturday 28th April : HOME v Gillingham (14th)

Saturday 5th May : AWAY v Southend United (12th)

All to play for then. Go Bristol!
