Here at 365Bristol, we're committed to making you aware of the best Bristol has to offer in terms of live music, great food and drink, days out and more. With the Live Music Highlights series, we'll be providing you with a list of the top live events at the beginning of every month, taking into account some of the city's favourite acts and venues as well as some you might never have heard of. For a treat, we thought we'd break tradition and actually bring you this month's highlights on time, with the likes of Gregory Porter, Alfa Mist and Frank Turner set to perform.

Gregory Porter is set to perform live at Bristol's Colston Hall on Tuesday 3rd April 2018.

Gregory Porter @ Colston Hall, Tuesday 3rd April

They don't come much cooler than Gregory Porter. Acclaimed American vocalist and one of the great voices of our time, he returns to Colston Hall this month for a special night dedicated to his musical idol, Nat King Cole. His trademark 'jazz hat' is known around the world, almost as well as his incredible singing voice, which has won scores of fans both in his native US and internationally. Porter's voice and the Colston Hall setting is something of a match made in heaven, and you certainly don't want to miss the chance to catch him in Bristol before he continues on his huge UK and European tour which sees him performing around the continent right through until August.

 

Horace Andy @ Thekla, Wednesday 4th April

This is sure to be one that's already on the radar of a lot of music fans in Bristol. Known around here for his association with local heroes Massive Attack, Jamaican singer-songwriter Horace Andy has been producing music and performing live since the 1960's. His hit songs Skylarking, Got To Be Sure and See A Man's Face among others earned him a reputation as someone with a supreme ability to deliver songs with real substance, covering topics like black determination and encouraging wayward youth onto better paths. Catch him at Thekla this month, with tickets starting at just £22.50.

 

Skankfest @ The Fleece, Sunday 8th April

Skankfest returns to Bristol this month for its latest offering.

Skankfest is back in Bristol this year, bringing another 12-hour marathon of Ska-punk mayhem to The Fleece on Sunday 8th April. With sets from Sonic Boom Six, Bar Stool Preachers and eleven more bands throughout the day, you certainly don't want to miss out on this one. This year's Skankfest is set to be headlined by none other than the eclectic Mancunian fiver-piece Sonic Boom Six. The band's ability to fuse a huge range of genres has won fans up and down the country, described by Kerrang! as "taking ska, pop, grime, dubstep, punk and metal apart, then rebuilding them as a hyperactive hybrid".

 

Alfa Mist @ Thekla, Thursday 19th April SOLD OUT

Having gained notoriety over the last couple of years with his unique blend of melancholy jazz harmony with alternative hip-hop and soul, Alfa Mist is a major part of London's new wave of Jazz artists coming through at the moment, alongside the likes of Yousseff Days, Henry Wu and more. Having grown up in East London, Alfa Mist started out as a grime and hip-hop producer before teaching himself to play the piano and turning on to jazz. Check out Antiphon, his first full album, available in full on YouTube. Tickets for this show are unfortunately sold out, but keep your eyes peeled for any going spare - this promises to be one of the best live shows this month.

 

Moritz Von Oswald & Rashad Becker @ The Cube, Saturday 21st April

Moritz von Ozwald and Rashad Becker are set to play the intimate space at The Cube on Saturday 21st April 2018.

In a very special one-off show at Bristol's Cube Cinema Microplex, electronic music pioneers Moritz von Ozwald and Rashad Becker will bring their collaborative Fathom show to the UK for the first time. Both key figures in Berlin's world-renowned electronic music scene, the pair have been central to the development of European experimental music over the last 20 years. They will be joined on the night by singer-songwriter Eric Chenaux.

 

Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls @ O2 Academy Bristol, Friday 27th April

Coinciding with the release of his seventh studio album, Be More Kind, Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls return to Bristol this month as part of their huge 2018 world tour. A renowned folk singer-songwriter, Turner's energetic and honest songwriting and performances have landed him huge numbers of fans around the world, as well as a loyal UK base that usually sees him sell out whenever he plays on home soil. Having come from humble beginnings and emphasizing punk values and the passion of previous generations, Frank Turner's love of music shines through in his live shows. This one is very likely to sell out so act fast!
