James MacMillan's Seven Last Words From The Cross is a musical depiction of Christ's crucifixion and his final utterances, a meditation on each of them expressed sonically as a moving, dramatic sequence. Adroitly alternating between passionate and fiery, serene and contemplative, it's a moving, haunting piece that will stay with you for a long time after the final notes have faded.

Baroque composer Handel requires scant introduction, and the performance selected for the evening - his Dixit Dominus - was written by the maestro when he was just 22 years old.  As you'd expect then, the piece is brimming with the unrestrainable vitality and exuberance of youth, fizzing with gutsy energy and irrepressible spirit, infused with strong Italian influences.

The performance kicks off at 7.30pm.  Tickets costs £24, £20 and £15, and can be purchased here.
St George's is located at Great George Street, Bristol, BS1 5RR.  Tel. 08454 024001
