St Patrick's Day Chili Cook-off Extravaganza at The Jam Jar on Saturday 17th March 2018

Posted on: 15 Mar 2018

It might be St Patrick's Day on Saturday 17th March 2018, but you did not expect any of the celebrations to focus on donning gigantic green hats, attempting dubious Irish accents and quitting your own body weight in Guinness, did you? For now, this is probably true (Saturday night at 1 am in town should be interesting, then) The jam jar in Bristol is giving the day its own uniquely distinctive spin with its chili cook-off extravaganza.

Celebrating Mexican Irish culture and its relations with the city, this vegan-friendly event wants to be more chili-based fun and games than you could shake a particularly disgruntled Leprechaun at. On the roster for the evening wants to be a chili con carne / non carne competition, where you can sample and score at least 10 meaty chilies concocted by chefs with a passion as their pets; a homemade hot chili sauce stand-off; The Chili Pepper Eating competition, chomping on chilies The rising of the Scoville scale - Sip of your Guinness.

As if all those chili-inspired shenanigans were not enough, there will be an Irish Mexican Fancy Dress contest and an Irish Factor contest, where you can check them out with an e-mail best one winning a special prize.

There will be a short presentation so you can get up on your Mexican Irish history, and tune-in wants to be in the evening courtesy of a selection of top-notch DJs. The bar does not want to serve alcohol so you can bring your own booze to the event. The live music and community space also want to be on a fundraiser to raise some much-needed cash to keep alive and kicking and fully licensed.
Entry is £ 10, and you can find out more about this Mexican Irish chili festival and the venue itself here.

The Jam is located at  12 Little Anne Street, Bristol,  BS2 9EB
