Trying Veganuary, with a lot of help from Bristol food delivery service, Miller Green

Posted on: 31 Jan 2018

Last February, I decided to give being vegan a try. I’d missed the boat for Veganuary, but liked the idea of having a time-limited period in which to give it a try. I had a few pre-planned events where I was going to have a meal ‘off’ but on the whole I stuck to it. Over all, I enjoyed the experience but I didn’t carry any of it on past the end of the month. I did find it quite hard, and I really missed cheese! I tried lots of vegan cheeses and found them all very underwhelming.

This year, I saw a post on Facebook from Miller Green, saying that they were looking for two people to try out Veganuary. In return, they would provide those people with all their evening meals for free! Miller Green make home-made vegan ready meals at their base in Cotham. You can buy their meals as a one-off, via Deliveroo, or via Subscription. I’d tried the meals before and loved them, so I decided to apply and was really pleased to be one of the people selected.Miller Green Moussaka | Bristol 365

I found Veganuary much easier this time around, and not having to worry about what was for dinner was an added bonus. If you’re part of the subscription service, Miller Green make a food delivery to your home or work on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and would let you know if there is anything needing to be eaten fresh rather than kept; for example the mac and cheese is best on the day it’s made. If you’re ordering as a one-off, Miller Green deliver every day except Sunday and Monday.

All of the dishes we were sent were delivious. Our favourites were the Moussaka, the Massaman Curry, and the Cottage Garden Pie. The portions are really filling and satisfying. You can find the full menu here

I’m writing this on 30th January and my husband and I have decided that we have enjoyed having Miller Green meals so much that we’re going to keep having them for three days a week from now on, even through our free offer has ended. I am not a fan of ready meals from shops as I think they taste a bit plastic-y, but they’re so convenient for when you get home late and don’t have the energy to cook. Miller Green meals have all the convenience of shop-bought ready meals, with none of the strange additives and preservatives. Even if you’re not vegan, the meals are great if you’re short of time, trying to eat more veg, or if you need to avoid dairy.
