Valentine’s Day is around the corner and Bristol is never short of unique events. For anybody who is interested in partaking in some romantic activities that don’t involve the usual meal out, shop bought chocolates and flowers, keep reading. There’s cemetery tours, romantic yoga, craft workshops and even an evening at the zoo! Here is our list of Valentine’s events that are a little outside of the box…

 

Make homemade cards at The Bristol Public Library Feb 13th 5.30-8pm

This crafty event is free to attend with some materials provided. Patricipants will have the chance to create a bespoke card for a partner or family member. A perfect event for all the family to enjoy. No registration is required for this project. Simply join the library in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room, starting at 5:30 p.m. Supplies and a limited number of pre-cut cards will be available; however, participants are welcome to bring their own supplies and ideas. Creativity Day at Creative Workspace Feb 13th 11am-3pm

This is another creative event for all the family to celebrate love by being creative together. Visitors can make an animation with professional animator Dan Templeton from 11-1 and 2-3pm, make special cards and simple gifts for loved ones throughout the day and enjoy making music with Dandelion Music together at 2pm. The Cafe will be selling snacks, simple lunches and home-made cake open 11am-3pm. The best part? This event is free entry with donations welcome. Charge of 70p to £1 to decorate a mini photoframe or keyring for a loved one. All other activities are free.

Valentines Day AcroYoga Workshop 10th Feb 10.30-12.30am at The Island

This event is centred around AcroYoga, aka ‘the yoga of trust’. The workshop will celebrate partner connectivity through a fun combination of simple acrobatics, partner yoga and Thai massage. You will not need any AcroYoga experience (or any regular yoga experience) as this workshop seeks to start at the foundations, emphasising play and creating a supportive environment. You can either book individually or as a pair, the event can be a great way to meet others also. Tickets cost £15 for one person and £25 for two and can be purchased here.

Cemetery Tour and Corpse Bride at Arnos Vale Cemetery 14th Feb 6.30-9pm

Join for a tour of Arnos Vale, hear about love beyond the grave, forbidden love, spot secret love signs on gravestones before ending at the candlelit Anglican Chapel for the screening of Corpse Bride. After Hours: Love at We The Curious 8th Feb 6.30-10pm

This event takes a romantic theme to come alive after dark. Promising music, stargazing shows, cocktails and some interesting games and activities which explore the science connected with the emotion of love. Tasks like using your sense of smell to pick out your ideal match, and dancing like animals, will make for a fun evening- child free of course. There will be two floors of immersive exhibitions to enjoy and yummy food available throughout the evening from The Pizza Bike and Gopal's Curry Shack. Two of the most classic romantic films are being screened at Bristol Zoo Gardens cinema this Valentine’s day. Dirty Dancing is on at 6.50pm and Romeo and Juliet on at 8.50pm in the intimate 100-seat indoor cinema, situated in the heart of the Zoo.
