365Bristol’s lovely neighbours over at Aardman Animations; Slapstick Festival have released us a limited amount of 2 for 1 codes for 3 very special shows, but act quick folks! Snap em’ up before they run out.

The multi-award winning physical comedy duo are taking the stage with a silent, high energy performance. Expect a show that’s full of spontaneity and anarchic fun, it’s completely wordless and with an interactive film.

 

Saturday 27th January

3:30pm - LIVE: When You Fall Down at The Lantern

When You Fall Down at Slapstick Festival in Bristol

This one man musical with James Dangerfield explores the life and career of the famous silent star Buster Keaton. The Show follows Keaton’s life from the early days of filmmaking in 1917 to his signing with production giants MGM 11 years later. Featuring original music and songs, the show runs for approximately 1 hour.

 

7:00pm - Lee Mack’s Laurel & Hardy Classics at Colston Hall

Lee Mack at Slapstick Festival in Bristol

Slapstick Festival has invited no other than comedian and writer Lee Mack to host a very special one-off event that celebrates his two comedy heroes; Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.  Complete with full comedy shorts, clips and live music, Lee brings the timeless icons back to the big screen where they belong.

 

9:15pm - The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) at Colston Hall

The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Slapstick Festival in Bristol

This late-night screening of the classic cult musical comedy celebrates the role of ‘music in film’. The screening of the film is accompanied by Jason Donovan who played the role of Frank N Furter in the musical’s 25th anniversary tour on stage. Donovan will take part in an onstage chat with writer Robert Ross before the film shows.

 

Sunday 28th January

11:15am – ‘Raw Sex’ with Rowland Rivron at Bristol Old Vic

'Raw Sex' at Slapstick Festival in Bristol

It was on the French & Saunders TV show that the unlikely duo Raw Sex was born. During their time on the show, the duo performed skits as Abba and The Pet Shop Boys. The act developed a stand-alone in its own right outside of the TV show, their popularity lead to a feature film in 1994 called “There’s No Business”. A cult comedy classic in its own right.

With extracts and highlights of their career, Rowland Rivron discusses the absurd, highly influential and brilliant double act in conversation with comedian and writer Robin Ince.

 

2:00pm – Jo Brand’s Top Comedy Moments at Bristol Old Vic

One of the UK’s best loved comedians, Jo Brand is welcomed to Slapstick Festival as she chooses her top comedy moments from television and film. Brand has an impressive list of credits which include appearances in Absolutely Fabulous, Getting On, QI, Have I Got News for You and much more.  A true comedy icon, with an impressive stand up career in comedy, join her in conversation with Matthew Sweet (Radio 3 Free Thinking).
