My Bristol Food with Rachel Cross-Graham

My Bristol Food with Rachel Cross-Graham

Posted on: 14 Nov 2017

In our My Bristol Food series, we talk with some of the most prominent Bristol foodies around to get their take on what makes the city's culinary scene tick and also get their recommendations. This week we spoke with Bristol foodie legend, Rachel Cross-Graham.

Brunch at Cox & Baloney in Bristol

Who are you?

My name is Rachel and I blog part-time over at www.Rachel-Emily.com alongside a job as an assistant quantity surveyor and studying part-time for my degree at UWE. I’ve lived in Bristol my entire life apart from a quick stint over in Cardiff for a year while I studied.

Where are your most-visited food places in Bristol?

My most visited food places have to be Miller and Carter in Cribbs Causeway, The Wing Fu Chinese Takeaway in Avonmouth and Venga in Portishead.

Where in Bristol has the...

Best BurgerAtomic Burger on Gloucester Road

Best Sunday RoastThe White Hart in Littleton on Severn (not technically Bristol but it’s really good)

Best Pub/barRed Light is my favourite place for a killer cocktail

Best Pizza – Not a big pizza lover so I wouldn’t know this one I’m afraid.

Tea at Cox & Baloney in Bristol

Best for special occasions – I’ve heard that The Pig, The Ox and The Ivy are all great for celebrations but as I’m saving for a house I haven’t had a chance to indulge yet.

Best Brunch – Ooh, there is too many. Cox and Baloney do a dreamy brunch and if you can get into Brace and Browns Bottomless Brunch then it’s delicious.

Best indie producer/shop/market

Caspian Fish Bar, the portion sizes and huge and amazing value for money and great quality. The large chips is pretty much a mountain.

If you were the Mayor of Bristol for a day what would you do?

I would make everyone more aware of food allergies and preferences. I think Bristol is pretty awesome at this but having a nut allergy and being lactose intolerant I can still struggle massively as lots of places use nut substitutes for lactose products. This is probably a bit niche but awareness is everything.

You’ve got 24 hours in Bristol to show some visitors around. What are you going to do?

If they were lucky enough to visit on the right dates I would love to take them to the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta as it’s my favourite event of the year. If the event isn’t on I would take them for Brunch at Cox and Baloney on Gloucester Road before heading across to the downs and the Clifton observatory. A walk around the harbourside at its museums just before sunset before heading to the Bristol Cider Shop, The Apple and finishing with a killer cocktail at Red Light.
