It is Anime Season at the Watershed in Bristol
Posted on: 08 Nov 20172017 marks 100 years since the birth of Japanese Anime and Bristol’s favourite independent cinema, the Watershed are hosting a series of screenings to celebrate this November.
Here’s what’s on:
Your Name – Thursday 16th Nov 6pm
Now the highest grossing anime film of all time, the dazzling body-swapping romance confirms director Makoto Shinkai’s reputation as Japan’s new anime king.
Belladonna of Sadness – Friday 17th Nov 6pm
This anime is an often-forgotten masterpiece. Innovation and imagination intertwine to make a truly psychedelic film.
Wolf Children – Saturday 18th Nov 2pm
One for all the family; this film tells the tale of a young mother who finds herself bringing up two half-wolf children.
Perfect Blue – Saturday 18th Nov 5pm
Perfect Blue is a deeply psychological thriller that provokes critique of idol culture in Japan. November sparks 20 years since its release.
Momotaro, Sacred Sailors – Sunday 19th Nov 2.30pm
A rare chance to see Japan’s very first feature-length anime. It was lost for decades and now the masterpiece is finally available to view.
Preview: Lu Over the Wall – Sunday 19th Nov 5pm
This anime about a mermaid is the latest from Masaaki Yuasa. It is quirky, colourful and family-friendly.
