Bristol City claimed yet another Premier League scalp in the Carabao Cup last night, booking their place in the quarter-finals for the first time in almost 30 years with a 4-1 thrashing of Crystal Palace. The prize is a huge home fixture against Manchester United which is scheduled for Wednesday 20th December 2017.

Match report: Bristol City 4 Crystal Palace 1

Almost all the talk before the match was about Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace side, who are still in the process of trying to turn things around following their dreadful start to the season and subsequent sacking of Frank de Boer. Hodgson signalled his intent by fielding a relatively strong starting XI, including first-team regulars James Tomkins, Jason Puncheon and Bakary Sako. It looked as though his decisions were going to pay off early on, as Palace opened the scoring after 21 minutes.

City pushed back, however, making it 2-1 before half-time through Matty Taylor and Milan Djuric, and adding two more in the second half. The victory meant the Robins booked themselves into the League Cup quarter-final draw, the first time since 1989 that they have managed to do so. The comfortable 4-1 win bought City's goal tally in this season's competition to 14 goals in just 4 games, a hugely commendable return considering the calibre of their opponents so far.

Now just three games away from the final at Wembley on 25th January, Bristol City are now the only non-Premier League side left in the competition. The quarter finals are:

Chelsea v AFC Bournemouth

Arsenal v West Ham United

Leicester City v Manchester City

Bristol City v Manchester United

Bristol City's next match is away to Sunderland in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday 28th October, while their next home fixture is against Cardiff City on Saturday 4th November. Tickets for upcoming matches are available here.
