Akon to play Bristol show

The serial collaborator and noughties r’n’b sensation will return to Bristol for one night at the O2 Academy on the 4th November, as part of a wider UK tour.

Bridge Akon

Nostalgia, it appears, will never go out of fashion in Bristol. Whether you’re after a nineties-themed trip down memory lane or something from the subsequent decade, the next couple of months in the city won’t disappoint. Last week it was announced that Vanilla Ice, Salt N Pepa, Coolio and many others would be appearing as part of the ‘I Love the 90s’ tour, and while the noughties lacks such a concentrated elegy, the bookings of R Kelly and Ne-Yo will provide more than enough to compete.

Another in the latter mould is Akon, the smooth-voiced r’n’b crooner who ascended to superstardom with a series of 12A hits like ‘I Wanna Love You’, ‘Smack That’ and ‘Don’t Matter’. These earned him collaborations with the likes of David Guetta and Snoop Dogg, and a place in the big leagues.

And, after fading somewhat into obscurity after 2008’s Freedom, he is back on the scene and back in Bristol for a night at the O2 Academy with the Konvict Kartel on Saturday 4th November.
