Long Ashton Golf Club Host Successful Junior Open

Long Ashton Golf Club Host Successful Junior Open

Posted on: 01 Aug 2017

Long Ashton GC held their Junior Open last Friday in what was forecast to be dreadful conditions with 63 players representing clubs in Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Wales.

One of the lucky Junior Open winners Nathan

With county players keen to be involved as it was a Gloucester County Junior Order of merit event and also a Daily Telegraph qualifier. Fortunately, the weather forecast was totally wrong and the heavy rain held off until all players and the many helpers got back into the clubhouse.

Conditions were tough for all the players and it was great to see 11 girls competing in the event which is more than previous years and hopefully we will continue to see this grow as more girls do seem to be taking up the game of golf and with so many junior coaching opportunities now available both at Long Ashton and other clubs the future is looking positive.

Many congratulations to the Gross winners: Nathan Moore (First home winner since Chris Wood, European Tour Player in 2004) and Arabella White (Lansdown) and Net Winners: Lewis Flett (Cirencester) and Elin Tynan (Minchinhampton, sister of Welsh International golfer Ffion).  Other notable scores were:  Gross 2nd Dylan Xanh (Mendip Springs) and Net 2nd Milan Reed (LA) and Gross Girls 2nd Davina Xanh (Mendip Springs and Net Girls 2nd Carys Parker (Saltford).  There was a hole in one by Minchinhampton player Harry Cowley on the 9th Harry has a handicap of 10 and is 16 and it is very rare we see this happen on the 9th

Congratulations to all the prize winners and huge thanks to everyone involved in the day especially the organisers and all the helpers who gave up their free time and the staff, without you all these events could not be run!

An amazing setting at Long Ashton GC for their Junior Open

Long Ashton Golf Club is located on the outskirts of Bristol, just three miles from the City Centre. It was founded in 1893 and is one of the best golf clubs in Bristol.

The 18 hole course is open all year round after a huge amount of work to ensure that both the greens and fairways are free-draining, meaning golf is available for 12 months and not the usual 6 as in lots of other clubs.
