Colston Hall announces Bristol rooftop parties for August

Posted on: 26 Jul 2017

The venue’s fourth storey terrace will play host to a quartet of parties in August thrown by some distinguished dance authorities with panoramic views across Bristol.

Under the roof of Colston Hall, which houses myriad acoustic nooks and musical crannies, there is one little-known and rarely-used promontory which juts out into the air above Bristol. This is the roof terrace, a partly-covered party space, complete with bar and all the suitable trappings, which looks out over the city.

Though this has been the location for a handful of notable knees-ups over the past couple of years, its party potential has remained largely untapped. Thus Colston Hall’s announcement of a quartet of parties, coming under the umbrella of the Terrace Sessions, is music to the ears of the Bristolian music fan.

These sunset-scheduled parties will take place on four successive weekends in August, each beginning at 5pm and costing no more than £5. They look good too, with star turns from the likes of Vancouver-based selectors extraordinaire Pender Street Steppers and the good-time Chicago bossman Sadar Bahar (pictured below). They will appear, respectively, on the penultimate and final instalments of the Terrace Sessions, on Friday 18th and Sunday 27th August.

The first half of the quartet comprises two free parties hosted by Boom Sound Recordings (on Saturday 5th August) and by FallingUp (on Friday 11th August). The former is slated to be a homage to Bristol’s reggae and bass culture, with slices of dancehall and jungle served up by The Nextmen, Kreed, ASBO Disco and Fat Stash, while FallingUp will draw solely upon the services of Andrew Ashong.

Whether providing the entry into a Friday night after work or closing out a Sunday evening in style, these 5pm starts fit snugly into any weekend – and will hopefully provide a proper viewpoint for some stunning Bristol sunsets.
