Legally Blone dog

Oh my dog, you guys!

Does your pooch fancy itself as a bit of a superstar? Do you fancy vicariously sampling the limelight through that canine companion? Then read on!

The folks behind the stage adaptation of Legally Blonde are seeking the services of a dog to perform the role of Rufus when the show takes place at The Bristol Hippodrome between the 2nd-7th October – and they are holding auditions to this end on Saturday, at the Hotel Du Vin.

Over 20 local dogs will be judged by a panel which includes Legally Blonde Associate Director David Barrett, Bristol Hippodrome Theatre Director Jenny Hutchinson and Destination Bristol Head of Tourism Kathryn Davis.

All dogs will be lined up at 1pm, with adjudication all completed before the winning woofer is announced at 3.30pm. All entries are welcome, though the following criteria should be observed:

  • A British Bulldog –although open to other breeds, but they need to have that look about them. Fairly bullish and robust.
  • Temperament – Relaxed, laid back, good with people and enjoys a good fuss.
  • Responsive to Commands – responds to ‘come here’, ‘sit’ etc and doesn’t just wander off.
  • Tricks – If skills are good enough they could end up using them in the show!
  • Experience – Although absolutely not essential, some form of stage experience would be a huge bonus

If that sounds like your pup, then the producers would love to hear from you! Email alisoncobb@theambassadors.com to apply.

Legally Blonde follows the story of Elle Woods, the pink-powered-sorority girl-turned-Harvard-Law-student, and her adventures at the Ivy League school. Along the way, Elle meets Paulette (who will be played by Eastenders' Rita Simons), whom she helps to win Rufus back from her drunken ex-boyfriend.
