Catch Jane Austen’s Persuasion at Bristol’s Redgrave Theatre

A musical adaptation of the classic novel has been commissioned to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the beloved author’s death, and will play in Bristol at the Redgrave Theatre on Friday 21st July.

Persuasion

Yesterday (18th July) marked the 200th year since the death of Jane Austen, indubitably one of the world’s most cherished writers, whose works are as important as they are compelling. To mark the occasion, the Bank of England unveiled a new £10 note featuring the face of the author, who joins the likes of Dickens and Shakespeare as one of the wordsmiths to act as a face of the pound sterling.

In another mark of commemoration, a musical stage adaptation of Austen’s final novel Persuasion is touring the country, performed by Chamber Opera Tours. The production includes renderings of songs from the writer’s manuscripts and contemporary music backed by a chamber orchestra, Regency costumes, projected sceneries and even a cohort of world-champion Irish dancers – all serving to transport its audience back to Austen’s own England.

First performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival of 2015, where it attracted plenty of acclaim, this production has entertained audiences in cities across the UK and America ever since; and now it is coming to Bristol.

Chamber Opera Tours will bring their production of Jane Austen’s Persuasion to Bristol’s Redgrave Theatre for one night only on Friday 21st July.

Tickets to the performance are £15 (or £12 for concessions) and can be bought here.
