The good people behind Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal are responsible for some of the most colourful additions to the streets of Bristol over the last five years, in the form of their Aardman public arts trails.

Gromit Unleashed was let loose in the city in the summer of 2013, with 80 customised replicas of Wallace’s faithful sidekick dotted through its streets. Two years later, Shaun the Sheep was given the same treatment, bringing the total raised for the Bristol Children’s Hospital to £6million.

Back in February, Aardman announced that another trail would take place in the summer of 2018, and a newly-erected billboard outside the Bristol Royal Infirmary appears to confirm this. The poster reads, ‘Another project from The Grand Appeal [is] coming soon’.

Though the identity of the latest Aardman character to be given the public trail treatment remains a mystery, speculation has been rife – check out our predictions here. Could 2018 finally be the turn of Wallace? Or would Bristol prefer to see the many faces of his nemesis Feathers McGraw? Could next year see selectors turn to another franchise entirely?

One hotly-tipped favourite is Morph, who this year celebrates his 40th birthday. To coincide with this, a three-metre ‘MegaMorph’ has been touring his hometown, spending time at various points around Bristol.
