David Walliams’ turn as a children’s author has been as surprising as it has impressive, with the former Little Britain actor previously known for writing for slightly more mature audiences.

However, since penning The Boy in the Dress back in 2008, he has gone on to write another 13 novels aimed at a younger readership and become one of the country’s most admired in this field – indeed, a recent poll, compiled by Canon, placed Walliams as the 37th greatest storyteller of all time, alongside the likes of Roald Dahl and JK Rowling.

As such, The First Hippo on the Moon was rapturously received when it landed it 2014 – so much so that it has been transformed into a stage show by theatre company Les Petits, and is currently touring the country to widespread critical acclaim. A number of Walliams’ previous titles have hit the stage in spectacular fashion, most recently in Gangsta Granny, which came to the Bristol Hippodrome last month.

The First Hippo on the Moon will play at The Redgrave Theatre in Bristol for one night only on the 29th June. Tickets at £14.50 can be purchased here.
