My Bristol Food - Danielle Ellis from Severn Bites
Posted on: 23 May 2017In our My Bristol Food series, we talk with some of the most prominent Bristol foodies around to get their take on what makes the city's culinary scene tick and also get their recommendations. This week it's Danielle Ellis from Severn Bites...
Who are you?
I’m Danielle Ellis. I moved to the area in 2016 after many years in Edinburgh. I’m English rather than Scottish! I am also a professionally trained bread baker
Where are your most-visited food places in Bristol?
I love a treat and Casamia has to be the ultimate place to dine.
Chandos Road has to be one of the best places for eating out anywhere
Where in Bristol has the...
Best Pizza
I love Stable Pizza, the sourdough base has just the right amount of crispness. The toppings are always delicious and different but not just for the sake of it.
Best for special occasions
It has to be Casamia. I just love sitting near the kitchen so I can see the dishes being prepared.
Best Brunch
Definitely the Lido perhaps after a swim or a session in their spa. Do try the Turkish poached eggs.
Best indie producer/shop/market
St Nicholas’ Market is perhaps an obvious choice, but there’s always something different to discover.
Best place for lunch
The Ethicurean has the most beautiful kitchen garden so in my mind, the best time to visit is for lunch. The ingredients will have just been picked from the garden and are cooked with love and care.
Any other top foodie tips?
Seek out the amazing artisan bakeries that can be found across the city. There’s no need to eat average bread
If you were the Mayor of Bristol for a day what would you do?
There are so many food-related initiatives across the city. I’d get everyone together for a day and see what we could do together.
You’ve got 24 hours in Bristol to show some visitors around. What are you going to do?
For something that would keep all the family happy, visit SS Great Britain there truly is something for everyone. From the very adventurous (climbing the rigging) to activities for kids. There’s a great cafe situated next to it. Then a short walk along to Wapping Wharf to try some of the eateries there. I’d then finish up with a beer masterclass at the Brewhouse & Kitchen.
