In yet another example of Bristol being great, a number of local charities will benefit from the iconic charity night ride. It is now set to return to our city on the night of 1st and 2nd July 2017. Hundreds of Nightriders will ride through the night and help raise £100,000 for dozens of good causes.

Many local charities will benefit including Great Western Air Ambulance Charity and Southmead Hospital Charity, as well as national organisations like Alzheimer's Society and The National Autistic Society. Each Nightrider can choose to support their favourite charity. Registration is now open and, if 2016's event is any indicator, then they will be snapped up quickly. Last year more than 200 people took part and over £80,00 was raised.

Back in 2008 Bristol was named the UK's first Cycling City. Bristol is one of Europe's most bike-friendly destinations and Nightrider provides a unique way to explore its well-known sights and attractions. For 2017 there will be two 50km loops through the city taking in major landmarks and hidden gems, including the vibrant Harbourside area and iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge.

The event takes place with a real sense of fun in mind. It's not your average cycling event and there's a real community spirit shared by the cyclists and those out to cheer them on.

Nicky Bromhall, 54, from Bristol took part in the first Nightrider event in 2016 for Blue Cross. He said: “It was certainly a challenge! We earned every penny of our sponsor money navigating the varied streets of Bristol in the early hours of the morning and saw parts of our city we had never seen in 30 years of living here!”

There are two payment options to take part in Bristol Nightrider: Option 1: Pay £99 full event cost then raise as much sponsorship money as possible for any charity. Option 2: Pay £39 registration fee then raise £175* minimum sponsorship for a Nightrider charity partner (*exact amount set by each charity). Virgin Money Giving is the official fundraising partner for Nightrider; they are 100% not-for-profit plus Gift Aid is reclaimed and passed on in full.
