The Burger Joint Bristol Unveil New Menu - A First Bite

Posted on: 01 Feb 2017

We get first taste of The Burger Joint's updated menu, which offers many new vegan and vegetarian options, at their headquarters on Whiteladies Road. Read on for our gustatory observations.

Burger Joint

The first Burger Joint opened in 2009, smack bang in the middle of a recession and before the beef-in-bun craze had really taken off. The eight years since have seen the patty-pioneers develop into a trifecta, with the birth of two more branches in Bedminster and Fishponds. This growth has not been without its challenges, however, with recent shift in eating trends requiring change so as to best adapt.

The updated menu with which we are presented at its original Whiteladies home reflects this, evidencing the Burger Joint’s reinvigorated commitment to its vegan and vegetarian diners. One such example is the new beetroot and feta patty which we are invited to sample preliminarily; packing flavour and great texture into a piece which holds its structural integrity more ably than many vegetarian alternatives. Other veggie-friendly options include the ‘veggie’ and ‘vegan’ joints, as well as the mushroom, garlic and herb burger.

I should stress at this point that the revised menu has meant addition rather than alteration, so the extensive list of patties, toppings and sauces remains entirely intact, as does their build-your-own approach which allows the customer to autonomously tune their burger by selecting from a checklist of these options. Ever the carnivore, I opt for two beef patties, with bbq pulled pork, grilled bacon and cheddar cheese in a ciabatta bun, topped off with nachos and with a side of bbq sauce for good measure.

By its sheer scale, the burger is impressive, arriving in a stack which makes tucking in reasonably tricky to negotiate and less than dignified to behold. It tastes wonderful; the beef is well-cooked and seasoned and deliciously complemented by the meaty accompaniment which sits on top. The bed of salad underneath provides a welcome bit of crunch and moisture, while the side of parmesan and truffle fries is really something.

Burger Joint

Surrounded by nationwide chains in the highly competitive market that has rapaciously shot up around the burger hype of the last few years, The Burger Joint has stayed on top as a Bristol favourite amongst the city’s discerning eaters. And here it is likely to remain on evidence of this new menu, which proves the restaurant’s ability to subtly adapt without compromising quality.
