Chinese New Year - the year of the rooster - will begin on Saturday 28th January and there a many ways to celebrate in Bristol. 365 have taken a look at all that is happening in the city and listed a few that will hopefully grab your attention! Enjoy...

This event will have firecrackers, traditional lion dances, kung fu displays along with traditional and contemporary dances. The New Year market will have delicious bubble teas, Chinese bakery items, and wonderful hot foods from a range of great stalls.

Masquerade Ball at SWX

26th January is, thanks to the time difference, Chinese New Year Eve. It is the beginning of Spring Festival which is biggest traditional festival for Chinese. Dress Code - Red / Masquerade. Doors open from 22.00-4.00. Masks are available on the door for £5!

Celebrations at Bristol Museum

The amount of things happening at Bristol Museum thanks to Chinese New Year are far too numerous to list here! Saturday 4th February will begin at 11am with an opening speech by Bristol’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Jeff Lovell. From there you can enjoy a lion dance courtesy of Bristol University and a fully packed schedule of events.

Cathay Rendevous

Bristol's iconic King Street - which has hosted pubs since 1650 - will be the backdrop for the Chinese New Year celebrations at Cathay Rendezvous. The restaurant itself has been on the premises since 1985 and is widely regarded as one of the very best restaurants in Bristol. A  lion dancing performance, along with other great festivities, begins at 7pm.
