Bristol Sports fixtures for January 2017

Bristol Sports fixtures for January 2017

Posted on: 02 Jan 2017

January can be a make or break month for sports teams, either pushing them towards promotion or into a mid-season relegation battle. Here's the upcoming fixtures for Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Bristol Rugby and Bristol Flyers in January 2017 together with a very brief re-cap of the season so far.

Bristol City

City start 2017 in 17th place in the Sky Bet Championship table with 27 points from their 24 games. 5 straight losses in December has hit them hard! They are 6 points from the drop zone and 14 away from the play offs and desperately need to take something from the fixtures v Nottingham Forest and Cardiff who are currently below them in 18th and 21st place respectively.

2nd January : Bristol City v Reading

7th January : Bristol City v Fleetwood Town - FA CUP 3rd Round

14th January : Bristol City v Cardiff City

21st January : Nottingham Forest v Bristol City (AWAY)

28th January : Aston Villa v Bristol City (AWAY)

31st January : Bristol City v Sheffield Wednesday

Bristol Rovers

Rovers are up to 10th place in Sky Bet League One after 2 wins on the trot v Coventry and AFC Wimbledon at the end of December. They are just 2 points from the play off spots and 16 clear of the relegation zone. This could be a huge month for Rovers; in the corresponding fixtures earlier in the season against these 5 to be played in January they took 10 points from 15.

There's no more FA Cup this year since the loss to Barrow on 4th December so all focus will be on making the play offs. Automatic promotion looks set to be battled out between Sheffield United, Bolton and Scunthorpe who are well clear at the top.

2nd January : Charlton Athletic v Bristol Rovers (AWAY)

7th January : Bristol Rovers v Northampton Town

14th January : Fleetwood Town v Bristol Rovers (AWAY)

21st January : Walsall v Bristol Rovers

28th January : Bristol Rovers v Swindon Town

Bristol Rugby

Wow! What an end to 2016 and start to 2017 for Bristol Rugby with a 14 man Boxing Day victory over Worcester Warriors and then a New Years Day 23-24 away win at Sale Sharks. Bristol remain bottom of the league thanks to pesky Harlequins not doing a job for us at Worcester on New Years Day. The gap is just 2 points now to Worcester and 7 to Sale, so the Northampton game is a huge one that could make it 5 wins on the bounce for Bristol. Keep it going boys!

New Years Day : Sale Sharks 23 Bristol Rugby 24

7th January : Northampton Saints v Bristol Rugby (AWAY)

13th January : Bristol Rugby v Bath Rugby - European Challenge Cup

21st January : Cardiff Blues v Bristol Rugby (AWAY) - European Challenge Cup

28th January : Ospreys v Bristol Rugby (AWAY) - Anglo Welsh Cup

Bristol Ladies Rugby

Bristol Ladies are top of the Women's Premiership as we head into 2017 with 9 wins from 10 matches - the only defeat being away at Aylesford in November when a huge number of Bristol players were unavailable due to international fixtures. hey are 4 points clear of nearest rival Lichfield and can probably as good as secure the title by beating them on 8th January. Well done the Ladies, a superb season so far and make sure to see it through in your last 4 matches.

8th January : Lichfield v Bristol Ladies (AWAY)

15th January : Bristol Ladies v Richmond

22nd January : Saracens v Bristol Ladies (AWAY)

26th March : Bristol Ladies v Wasps - Last premiership game of the season.

Bristol Flyers

The Flyers are in 9th place in the British Basketball League but just one win separates them from the 3 in joint bottom place - Cheshire Phoenix, Leeds Force and Manchester Giants, all of which have games in hand. It is imperative that Bristol beat all of these as well as find somewhere to pick up more victories. 6 games in January and still another 18 in total to go but points now can relieve so much pressure!

7th January : Bristol Flyers v Manchester Giants

8th January : Reading Rockets v Bristol Flyers (AWAY)

14th January : Bristol Flyers v Worcester Wolves

20th January : Bristol Flyers v Plymouth Raiders

27th January : London Lions v Bristol Flyers (AWAY)

29th January : Cheshire Phoenix v Bristol Flyers (AWAY)
