New Year's Nights Out in Bristol

New Year's Nights Out in Bristol

Posted on: 20 Dec 2016

It wouldn't be unfair to say that most of us, for one reason or another, will be pretty happy to see the back of 2016. See it out in style at any of the following events, a comprehensive list of the best New Year's events in Bristol, where you can drink and dance to a better 2017.

Motion

The Blast presents New Year's Eve

Kurupt FM

The biggest NYE party around comes courtesy of The Blast, who will occupy the skate park as they have done their previous In:Motion berths, with their belting infusion of jungle, d’n’b and dubstep. Their last party of the year looks no different, with a bill headed up by People Just Do Nothing's mock-garage heads Kurupt FM (pictured) and Radio 1 resident jammer Toddla T. Taking it slightly more seriously will be the likes of DJ Zinc and Barely Legal, who will lend their heavier stylings to proceedings on what looks set to be a big, big night.

Psyched 90s Garage at Analog

Psyched 90s Garage at Analog

The setting is perfect: a venue designed solely for this type of affair, Analog has seen it all before and delivered time and again. The drinks flow as quickly as the masses flow through the doors. The courtyard garden gets as packed as the main rooms as people look to take a bit of time off in the plush surroundings. Analog is truly a great venue for a big night...and they don't come any bigger than New Year's Eve.

Fat Lip New Year's Eve Party at The Lanes

Fat Lip New Year's Eve Party at The Lanes

An authority on all things rock, Bristol-based party throwers Fat Lip are throwing their first ever New Year's Eve party this year. Hosted by The Lanes, the bash is set to be a memorable blow out to cap a year most of us would like to forget.

The dress-code is strictly black/emo, with the accompanying soundtrack adhering. As such, expect the usual remit of Fat Lip tunes, which will take in anthems from pop punk, rock and alternate, spun by their resident DJs.Add to this the live bands that are lined up (which include Beyond Recall, Montroze and Healer), and the evening presents a particularly mouthwatering musical proposition. With simultaneous drink deals in a fully decked-out venue, complete with confetti canons, the evening is set to go off.

In:Motion New Year's Day

Nastia

Rounding off this year's stellar series of In:Motion is their now legendary New Year’s Day party. Proving that patience really is a virtue, by postponing your party by 24 hours you can sample a truly massive line-up of the best in the business. Showcasing a bill which shares equally between the best in deep house (courtesy of Tale Of Us, Jackmaster Kink, Gerd Janson and ItaloJohnson) and stellar techno, á la Ben Klock, Nastia (above) and Helena Hauff, the In:Motion honchos have evidently had a lot of fun in selecting for the event which reads like a snapshot of the Resident Advisor top 100 of 2016.

Lakota

Cubana NYE Revolution

AJ Tracey

2016 ,the year which has taken from us so many instrumental figures, took another late twist last month with the death of the divisive Cuban leader Fidel Castro. At its close, return to the streets of Castro’s Havana (or, Lakota), where Cubana will be hosting the latest in their series of parties in homage to the communist island. With the bonfire outside matched by the flames being dropped ‘pon the floor by the likes of Devlin, ONEMAN, AJ Tracey and Madam X, the grime/bassline crossover will be hotter than the Caribbean sun.

Alfresco Disco

Bounce New Year's Eve

Alfresco Disco

Ever mysterious, Bristol-based party throwers Alfresco Disco are yet to reveal the location for their New Year's bash. Don't be deterred by the misdirection though, as the previous destinations for their secret raves have included the tunnel behind Temple Meads, Queen's Square and, amazingly, the Weston Super Mare pier - with each of these fabulously decked out with the finest audio and visual entertainment. With such pedigree, rest assured that the setting for Bounce, their latest offering, will not disappoint.

Blue Mountain

New Year's Eve Party

The Artful Dodger

Mike Skinner once said, “I make bangers, not anthems - I leave that to the Artful Dodger.” Since Skinner’s words in 2002, when the duo (above) were at the peak of their creative powers, the anthemic reverence with which their back catalogue is regarded has only increased. Catch the old masters at Blue Mountain on the 31st, alongside a number of their contemporaries from this golden age of garage, d’n’b and jungle, including So Solid Crew, Burga Boy and General Levy.

Canteen

Jungle New Year's Eve

Jungle

…and as the latter would have it, “Jungle is massive.” Prime proponents of this sentiment, the wonderful folks at the Canteen have gone all out in their commitment to it this New Year’s Eve, transforming the space into a tropical rainforest. Hot, heavy and misty they promise ‘Jungle décor, Jungle dress-code and a Jungle atmosphere’. A biodiverse soundtrack, courtesy of ASBO Disco, Dr Syntax and Dub Boy, will accompany the ecosystem, keeping it rumbling into the large hours.

The Black Swan

Tribe of Frog New Year's Eve

Tribe of Frog

Keeping to the anthropomorphic theme, psytrance aficionados Tribe of Frog will be taking over The Black Swan, allowing the wide-eyed amongst you to see in the new year in the weirdest way possible. Expect extensive decorations of the venue’s three areas which will be densely populated by rigorous and repetitive beats from psytrance, progressive psytrance (naturally), techno and breaks genres. While the mood will be nothing but loving, this one is not for the faint of heart or ear.
