Moored at the picturesque floating harbour, just outside M Shed, The Matthew is a working heritage site of huge significance and importance to the city of Bristol. Built between 1994 and 1996, it was constructed for an ocean voyage to North America, marking the 500th anniversary of the original Matthew’s voyage at the hands of John Cabot.

The Matthew run regular tips with various themes. They include voyages along the beautiful Avon Gorge, around the harbour, sea-shanty specials and the ever popular fish and chip or cream tea trips! Gift vouchers can be purchased for any amount and then redeemed against any of the many trips offered year-round. For more info on their regular events please click here

Since the 1997 journey, the Matthew has been moored in Bristol’s floating harbour and become a hugely popular attraction for locals and tourists of all ages. Particularly impressive is the fact that visits are free of charge. You can explore the ship and chat to the knowledgeable staff about the history of both the original and new ship, the building of it and much more. The staff - all of whom are volunteers - are experienced in dealing with groups of all ages and also with special educational needs or disabilities – the ship is wheelchair accessible.
