Have Yourself a Christmas Feed at The Volunteer Tavern in Bristol

Posted on: 14 Dec 2016

Tucked away behind Cabot Circus is The Volunteer Tavern, a public house with a commitment to the local at the very heart of their philosophy. A shady garden ensures its status as a pub for all seasons, though in the winter months you'd be best placed in the cosy surround of its one room, ideally with a plate of its renouned grub before you.

Roast at The Volunteer Tavern

There is no better way to warm your cockles on a chilly winter Sunday than with a classic roast dinner, and The Volunteer Tavern excels in delivering what is widely-revered as one of the city's very finest. Serving food both as traditional as befits their grade II listed walls, and more modern, vegan-friendly dishes, their menu accounts to any taste.

A fierce commitment to local produce informs their dishes, with all of their meat bought from Bristol suppliers, including JD Brittan, the city's oldest independent butcher. The artwork which decorates the interior is similarly-sourced, having been provided by indigenous artist Laura Cramer.

This attitude drips into their liquid offerings too, with the bar-ful of rotating real ales provided by Bristol-based brewers like Arbor Ales, Wickwar Brewery and Wiper and True. Also featuring a selection of fine wines and spirits, the alcohol on offer allows for adequate accompaniment to the food, or enough to justify the trip on its own.

Whilst walk-ins are accepted, booking ahead is encouraged to avoid disappointment, particularly on Sundays - it appears the word is well and truly out about this one! To do so, give them a bell on 0117 955 8498 or visit www.volunteertavern.co.uk.
